About this role
Make a difference. Every day.
Do you enjoy working with children and are you attracted to working in an emergency department? Then you are warmly welcome to join us at the Pediatric Emergency Department in Malmö! Here, you will have the opportunity to work in an educational and varied environment.
We have approximately 30,000 visits per year and handle urgent medical cases for children and adolescents around the clock. All children and adolescents up to 18 years old with acute medical, orthopedic, and surgical issues are cared for with a holistic humanitarian approach, addressing medical, nursing, psychological, and social pedagogical aspects. We receive everything from minor ailments that only require advice to life-threatening conditions that need to be managed by a multidisciplinary team activated through the hospital's alarm organization. We work with the best interests of the children and families at the center, following the guidelines of the Nordic Association for the Needs of Sick Children (NOBAB).
We utilize the Triage Handbook, RETTS, and PM, and have close collaboration with, among others, Primary Care, the adult emergency department, pediatric wards at Skåne University Hospital (Sus), and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (BUP). Together with pediatric nurses, nursing assistants, doctors, receptionists, secretaries, and social workers, we strive to provide the best possible care for each individual child. Our motto is that we do it together.
We are on the verge of implementing the Competence and Service Model (KTM) to provide a clearer career and responsibility pathway.
Are you curious about us and our department? Would you perhaps like to come and shadow us? Then you are warmly welcome to contact us!
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
We are now looking forward to welcoming two colleagues to our team at the Pediatric Emergency Department in Malmö!
In the role of nurse, alternatively pediatric nurse or emergency nurse, you will work with common tasks in a pediatric emergency department. This includes triaging to the appropriate level of care, managing and treating acutely ill children. In addition to direct patient care, all staff members are involved in continuing to develop and improve the care provided in our unit.
With us, children are always the focus. Providing information and communication to parents and children is an important part of our work. An ambulance with a critically ill child can arrive at any moment, requiring us to rethink and work systematically as a team in our emergency room.
Our unit managers and specialist nurses ensure that you, as a new employee, receive an individually tailored introduction program, including follow-up conversations with a designated mentor. The length of the introduction is adjusted based on experience and competence. Each semester, we can accept a newly graduated nurse, who will be offered 12 weeks of introduction. You will then have the opportunity to participate in a clinical foundation year focused on pediatric care alongside all newly graduated staff within the pediatric medicine area. For employees who have not previously worked with children, we offer a training program focused on pediatric care. We emphasize continuous professional development, and all staff undergo ongoing mandatory training such as CPR and emergency drills, internal training, workshops, and shadowing in other units.
Nurses with us have a quota-based working time model, which means you can plan your schedule. The more quota time (unsociable working hours) you include, the shorter your working time will be. Over ten weeks, this can result in a reduction of working hours equivalent to a full week.
QUALIFICATIONS
We are looking for a licensed nurse with the authority to practice within Swedish healthcare. Proficiency in Swedish at least at level C1 according to the Council of Europe’s scale is a requirement. As a person, you thrive in a dynamic work environment where your ability to take responsibility and quickly adapt to varying situations is essential. Furthermore, you are engaged, possess a strong empathetic ability, and want to contribute to and develop our department. You are professional, enjoy working according to clear structures and routines, and have a good approach to patients, relatives, and colleagues. If you like challenges, varying pace, and are flexible, you will thrive with us. We place great importance on personal suitability.
