About this role

Together, we are developing Sahlgrenska University Hospital for a sustainable future. We are transforming healthcare with the goal of becoming Europe’s leading university hospital by 2032. Together with our patients, we strive for quality, accessibility, patient safety, research, education, and innovation – within an integrated healthcare system in the Västra Götaland region. Our vision and goals aim for care of the highest quality, with the patient always at the center. We provide healthcare locally and regionally, as well as highly specialized care to patients across the country and abroad. Our employees are our strength, contributing to knowledge exchange both nationally and internationally. With digital tools and new working methods, we can simplify daily operations at the hospital and offer modern, accessible, and efficient care of the highest quality. Are you curious about emergency care? With us, you can experience the best of both worlds – the opportunity to work with acutely ill patients combined with the security of being part of a ward team! Ward 348B/KAVA at Östra Hospital is a surgical emergency care unit where patients are admitted from the emergency department. The majority of patients are treated for gastrointestinal diseases. The patient turnover is high, with an average length of stay of just under three days, providing a varied and challenging workday. We work person-centered in teams with nurses, nursing assistants, and doctors. The work involves the assessment and evaluation of acutely ill patients, some of whom are treated to completion with us while others are referred to specialist departments. This offers an opportunity to gain broad competence in various surgical diagnoses. Why should you work with us? Your well-being is important to us, and you will be welcomed into a staff group with strong cohesion and a positive collaborative climate. You will gain extensive experience in both emergency care and surgical care. To ensure you feel secure in your role, you will receive a thorough introduction. If you are a recent graduate, you will have a mentor and be part of the department’s own introductory year, in addition to the clinical foundation year. You will be part of a workgroup that focuses heavily on quality and patient safety, always striving to improve! We value personal development and create individual development plans based on your interests and needs. What will your responsibilities be? You will work with common nursing tasks, which means a varied and stimulating workday – where you make a difference! In brief, the work involves regular assessments of vital parameters and abdominal status, rounds, admitting patients from the emergency department, preparing patients for examinations and surgeries, as well as medication management and sampling. You will take a leading role in the work surrounding the patient and coordinate preparations for emergency surgeries, examinations, and discharges. Who are we looking for? If you are, or will soon be, a licensed nurse, you could be our new colleague! Knowledge and/or experience in emergency care and surgical care is advantageous for this position. To succeed in this role, you should enjoy managing a varied workday and be skilled at reprioritizing and meeting each patient’s specific needs. Your ability to delegate and collaborate is very important for this position. You take a leading role when the situation requires it and are adept at communicating with patients and their relatives. Does this sound like an exciting position and an opportunity for you to develop? Selection and interviews will be conducted continuously, so do not hesitate to submit your application today! We warmly welcome your application! Meet some of our employees - Sahlgrenska University Hospital As a newly graduated nurse, you will be part of the Clinical Foundation Year, which is our introductory program. The Clinical Foundation Year is mandatory and lasts for the first year of your employment with us. It includes lectures, nursing supervision, and practical training in your profession at the Simulation Center. Additionally, it involves service in at least two different departments to broaden your competence. In the event of recruiting nurses/doctors with foreign licenses/specialist certificates, the relevant position will be preceded by a process to meet the requirements for Swedish licenses/specialist certificates.
