Our Operations
The Orthopedics and Hand Surgery specialty area has an exciting offer for those interested in working with orthopedics.
Ward 70A primarily has an acute patient influx receiving pre- and post-operative care for various fracture types, i.e., injuries resulting from traumas. Some patients might have, for example, cut themselves at work, broken a leg on a ski trip, or been involved in a high-energy traffic accident. Other patients might have suffered a hip fracture after a fall or developed an infection requiring amputation. Thus, our patient clientele is varied in terms of age and underlying conditions. We also have physicians with specialist competence in complex pelvic fractures and difficult hand surgical procedures, which means we receive patients from large parts of the country.
Ward 70B handles most of our planned care. Here, we help patients with arthrosis requiring prosthetic supply in hip, knee, or shoulder joints. The acute influx primarily consists of patients with traumatic spine and neck fractures, large herniated discs requiring urgent surgery, or patients with infections needing surgical intervention in addition to antibiotic treatment. We have physicians highly specialized in prosthetic and spinal surgery, which means we also provide national and regional healthcare.
Patient stays vary and can range from one day to several weeks. We work in teams with professionals such as: nurses, nursing assistants, pharmacists, counselors, junior doctors, specialist physicians, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and medical secretaries. We also have nurses with special functions like quality managers and educational nurses, aimed at driving and developing patient care and supporting new colleagues. It's important to us that you as a nurse can develop in your role, so we offer continuous training days, weekly lectures, and the opportunity to take orthopedic courses during work hours.
Your Assignment
We always provide a safe and well-structured introduction of at least 5 weeks. A personalized introduction program is developed together with one of our educational nurses. The introduction includes lectures on orthopedic diseases, a course in pain pump management, TUB training, transfer techniques, and introductions with other professional categories to get a comprehensive view of how we work in the department.
Here, you'll gain broad knowledge about orthopedic patients and pre- and post-operative care. Besides the orthopedic condition, many of our patients also have other background diseases that may need treatment. This means you'll also acquire broad medical knowledge.
For newly graduated nurses, we offer a clinical development year (comprising 20% of your work time) where you can deepen your knowledge in certain areas.
Training sessions occur monthly with other team members. We also have continuous simulation training based on the SMART concept. For nurses who have worked two years or more, we offer a scheduled in-depth training in orthopedic diseases and diagnoses.
Your Qualifications
We are seeking a licensed nurse with an interest in orthopedics.
Your Competence
We value a positive work climate where all employees thrive and feel secure. We seek someone with good collaborative abilities who wants to work in a multi-professional team. You will manage nursing care, identify care needs, initiate, follow up, and prioritize your actions. Your goal is to provide the best care for your patients. We seek someone curious, initiative-taking, flexible, and eager to develop. Previous experience in orthopedics and/or emergency healthcare is meritorious but not required.
We Offer
We offer a permanent full-time nursing position with start date by agreement. We seek someone willing to work day, evening, and weekend shifts, or rotate between day and night shifts, or work permanent night shifts. Probationary employment may be applied.
We offer benefits that make a difference, read about them here (https://regionuppsala.se/jobba-hos-oss/bli-var-nya-kollega/formaner/).
