About this role
Make a difference. Every day.
Are you curious about working in transplantation and kidney care? Do you want to be part of developing kidney and transplantation healthcare for the future? Then you are the one we are looking for!
The department is located on the 9th floor of the new hospital, offering a fantastic view of Malmö. The operation has grown significantly over the past year to meet the future needs of kidney healthcare. All patients have single rooms. Everything is new and modernized in terms of facilities, equipment, and working methods, leading to new opportunities for developing the operation. As an employee, you will be part of this journey and play an important role, as you will have the opportunity to participate in and influence the department's routines and working methods.
The Kidney and Transplantation Department is part of the specialty area (VO) of nephrology, rheumatology, and endocrinology. The department is a hybrid unit where we care for patients who are about to undergo or have undergone transplantation, as well as patients within nephrology. This autumn, we have also started caring for hospitalist patients from surgery and urology. In other words, it’s an exciting mix that will give you a broad skill set.
In nephrology, we care for patients with acute illnesses as well as chronic conditions. Examples of diagnoses include vasculitis, nephrotic syndrome, various forms of nephritis, among others. We assist patients in gaining access (vascular access) prior to the start of dialysis and address issues with existing accesses. The transplantation surgery includes both planned and urgent kidney transplants. Occasionally, we also care for patients before and after pancreas transplants. Another important aspect is managing rejection problems after transplantation that require treatment. Following a severely ill kidney patient who has been transplanted and then leaves the department with a functioning kidney again is very rewarding.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
The department currently has 24 care beds on weekdays and 18 on weekends, with plans to open up to 24 beds in the spring of 2026. We work in teams consisting of a nurse and a nursing assistant. Each team is responsible for six to seven patients together with the responsible medical team, and you will jointly plan the tasks for the shift. Support functions such as coordinators, operations staff, physiotherapists, pharmacists, occupational therapists, dietitians, and social workers are also part of the staff. Patients come to us both electively and acutely, so the pace and workload can vary throughout the day.
As a new employee with us, you will receive an individual introduction based on your existing skills. If you have prior experience, we will tailor the introduction to your circumstances. Those who are newly graduated will be offered a seven-week introduction that includes both theory and practice in nephrology and transplantation care.
The operation offers you a varied, stimulating, and educational workplace where you have the opportunity for personal development and training. Since development is important to us, we encourage your participation in the department's ongoing development work. Competence development occurs continuously, both internally and externally.
We work two weekends out of five and have a fixed schedule. We are primarily looking for nurses for day/evening shifts.
QUALIFICATIONS
We are looking for a licensed nurse with the authority to practice within Swedish healthcare. Proficiency in Swedish at least at level C1 according to the Council of Europe’s scale is a requirement for the position. Experience in nephrology and/or transplantation surgery is advantageous but not mandatory.
