Additional tasks may arise based on the needs of the operation. This includes work in the operating room, where you will assist doctors, and there is also the possibility of being trained to administer certain injections independently. In Västervik, specialized ophthalmic care is provided to residents of northern Kalmar County. The clinic consists of eye outpatient departments in Västervik, Vimmerby, and Oskarshamn, as well as a day ward and operating department. About 50 employees with various competencies work with us, including doctors, ophthalmic nurses, registered nurses, optometrists, orthoptists, nursing assistants, and medical secretaries. The clinic's primary focus is on the diagnosis and treatment of cataracts and glaucoma, laser treatment for diabetic changes, diseases of the macula, and pediatric eye diseases. Investigations and treatments of diseases in and around the eye are conducted in the outpatient department. The operating department primarily performs cataract surgery, with the number of surgeries varying but averaging around 1,700 per year.
