Department of Plant Breeding About the Position The Department is facing changes in the form of new subject areas and certain organizational shifts. Additionally, there are significant opportunities for continued strong operations through technical development and national priorities for domestic food production. Therefore, the Department needs a senior advisor with both deep and broad knowledge of the conditions in an academic organization and the prerequisites of plant breeding in a changing environment. The advisor is expected to contribute with both historical anchoring and strategically relevant perspectives for a dynamic development. Job Responsibilities • Advisor for plant genetic resources. Tasks include supporting coordination of joint activities between the department and NordGen, facilitating contacts with other international plant genetic collections as needed, and assisting with administrative aspects of acquiring plant genetic resources for the department. • Internal review of research funding applications for the department. • Mentorship to the head of department, including strategic discussions about organization, long-term direction of departmental activities, positioning within the faculty, etc. Your Background • Experience in leadership at the Alnarp faculty. • Good knowledge of plant genetic resources, plant breeding, and related research conditions. • Ability to work independently as well as collaborate in groups, with strong overall communication skills. About Us The Department of Plant Breeding at SLU focuses on research, education, and innovation of strategic importance for sustainable and profitable crop cultivation for plant-based food, feed, and industrial products in a changing climate. The department has three divisions: Plant Breeding, Plant Biotechnology, and Plant Product Quality. The department employs a broad spectrum of methods from field experiments to genetics, genomics, phenomics, gene editing, biochemistry, physiology, and modeling.
