About this role
Together, we are developing Sahlgrenska University Hospital for a sustainable future. We are transforming healthcare with the goal of becoming Europe’s leading university hospital by 2032. Together with our patients, we work towards quality, accessibility, patient safety, research, education, and innovation – within an integrated healthcare system in the Västra Götaland region. Our vision and goals aim for care of the highest quality, where the patient is always at the center. We provide healthcare locally and regionally, as well as highly specialized care to patients throughout the country and abroad. Our employees are our strength, contributing to knowledge exchange both nationally and internationally. With digital tools and new working methods, we can simplify everyday life at the hospital and offer modern, accessible, and efficient care of the highest quality.
Would you like to work as a section leader in a team where knowledge, development, and care are at the core? Where you can grow in your professional role while making a real difference for patients of all ages?
The Department – combining breadth and expertise
The Infectious Diseases Clinic at Sahlgrenska University Hospital is a dynamic workplace where care, research, and development go hand in hand.
Here, you will not just have a job – you will have a meaningful career where you make a difference every working day.
The Infectious Diseases Clinic has four wards with a total of 54 beds and a large outpatient department with both emergency and planned services. Patients with various suspected or confirmed infectious diseases are treated here. Common diagnoses include pneumonia, sepsis, complicated infections of the lower respiratory tract or soft tissues, infections of heart valves, or in the gastrointestinal tract. We also care for patients who are carriers of multidrug-resistant bacteria or require isolation for other reasons, as well as patients with more classical infectious diagnoses such as malaria, measles, and tuberculosis.
Ward 303 – where the future of infectious disease care takes shape
Ward 303 is an infectious diseases ward with a special focus on children, pregnant women, and postpartum women – but adults are also treated here. It is a versatile and educational environment where you will work closely with both the pediatric and women's clinics while developing your competence in broad infectious disease care. In December, we will launch the "IK Nära" project in the ward, an outpatient service for patients with complicated infections requiring long-term treatment.
Responsibilities
As a section leader, you will report directly to the unit manager and be part of the ward's management team. In consultation with the unit manager and fellow section leaders, we work together to ensure good care, high patient safety, and continuous improvement of care quality.
A significant part of the role involves acting as a supervisor for the staff working in the ward. You will need to have the ability to overview, prioritize, and organize work while supporting and guiding colleagues. Additional specific responsibilities include:
- Being responsible for the introduction and training of new staff and acting as a mentor during their initial period in the ward.
- As the personnel manager, overseeing short-term recruitment (emergency gaps, other absences).
- Collaborating with the unit manager to design the ward's staff meetings, planning, and training days.
- Being responsible for updating, implementing, and following up on the ward's routines and documentation.
- Actively working to ensure the unit adheres to basic hygiene routines and other healthcare hygiene directives.
- In consultation with the unit manager, being responsible for the continuous identification, planning, and coordination of training needs for all employees.
- Distributing and updating staff members' individual areas of responsibility.
Qualifications
We are looking for a licensed nurse with experience in the profession. Great emphasis is placed on your ability to lead, your good collaborative skills, and your ease in building relationships. You should be able to oversee and prioritize both your own tasks and those of the staff working in the ward. You are accustomed to taking initiative and can organize work independently. Personal suitability is highly valued.
Employment Type
Permanent employment as a nurse with a fixed-term assignment as section leader (three years). The section leader assignment will be extended or concluded after a mutual evaluation. The position is 100% and is divided between administrative and clinical work.
We warmly welcome your application!
