About this role
Coordinator for School as an Arena at Sjöboskolan
We are seeking someone who is driven by the conviction that we must work together and collaborate across different actors, associations, and civil society to create more opportunities for children to have a good life and feel hopeful about the future.
School as an Arena is an approach that involves opening up school premises after school hours for children and others who live or work in the local area. People can come and participate in or lead various free activities outside of lesson times. The goal is to give children a good start in life and more equal growing-up conditions.
The School as an Arena concept has been successfully implemented in several schools in Sweden and internationally. It has existed in Borås for about 4 years and is present in three different schools, with Sjöboskolan being one of them. We are now looking for a new team member and hope that you find this an exciting assignment.
Sjöboskolan is a two-parallel preschool to 6th-grade school with approximately 300 students. The school facilities are adapted to the student base, and there is a full-size sports hall directly connected to the school, with easy access to culture and nature.
As a coordinator for School as an Arena, you will collaborate with many different actors within the association life, local community, various Borås City services, and other societal functions that can contribute to the success of School as an Arena. You will be employed at Sjöboskolan, with the school principal as your immediate supervisor.
Job Responsibilities
School as an Arena primarily takes place after school hours and contributes to increased social cohesion, strengthened trust, and empowerment in the local community where the school is located. This occurs by opening the school after hours to residents, local actors, and neighborhood associations, viewing the school's activities as a resource for the local community, and leveraging resources and commitment. In this way, more people can contribute to children's development, and we gain a more comprehensive view of children's lives.
As the coordinator for School as an Arena in your area, you will be the connecting and driving link in the work. You will work on the entire process from needs and resource inventory to implementation and development. The work should be co-created together with children, families, school, associations, local residents, nonprofit organizations, housing companies, libraries, and other Borås City activities, among others.
In your role, you are the link between the school and the local community, ensuring that collaboration and activities within the approach function effectively. The role involves both participating in leading activities and planning and creating strategic-level conditions. Working hours are during the day, but evening and weekend work may occur.
Qualifications
We are seeking someone with broad and multi-year experience in community-oriented social work, preferably with a university degree. We want you to have experience working in schools, with children and youth, and with the nonprofit sector and organizations.
For this position, we prefer someone with knowledge and experience in process and project management. A prerequisite for success in the role is having a networking approach and being skilled at creating good relationships that promote collaboration between different actors and professions. Experience working with collaboration between associations and public services is considered meritorious.
In your work, you are attentive, goal-oriented, and structured. You make things happen and have good communication skills, communicate clearly, actively seek others' perspectives, and adapt your approach to those you interact with. You have good knowledge of the Office package and express yourself well verbally and in writing.
