About this role

Security Unit, Ministry for Foreign Affairs Do you have experience in security protection and personnel security and want to use your expertise in a role that truly makes a difference? With us, you will have the opportunity to contribute to Sweden's security in an organization that places high demands on judgment, structure, and integrity. You will be an important part of the systematic security protection work within the Government Offices and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs (MFA). Your workday. Sweden's tomorrow. As a security officer in the MFA's security unit (MFA SÄK), focusing on personnel security, your primary mission is to ensure that individuals participating in the MFA's activities are loyal to Sweden's security and otherwise reliable from a security perspective. You will be responsible for all aspects of personnel security, including background investigations, record checks, and certain other administrative tasks, follow-up, and training in security protection. You will collaborate with other functions in the Government Offices and other agencies, and you will support heads of foreign representations through, for example, method development and incident investigation. As time permits, you may also contribute to other areas of MFA SÄK's mission. Your background You possess a relevant academic degree, police education, or other qualifications in combination with work experience that the employer deems equivalent. You have several years of experience in similar tasks related to security protection and personnel security, along with knowledge of the laws and regulations that govern this work. It is an advantage if you have experience in other security protection areas. We also consider documented knowledge in investigation methodology and/or interview techniques as an asset, as well as experience working with collaboration and dialogue in a larger organization. Strong proficiency in both Swedish and English, both spoken and written, is required. Your qualities As an officer in the security unit, you are expected to be self-sufficient and capable of independently managing cases within your area of responsibility. You structure your work, drive it forward, and adapt quickly and dynamically to changing circumstances. With sound judgment and high integrity, you handle complex and sensitive information in a secure manner. You see yourself as part of the whole and actively contribute to both your own and others' work environment. Building and maintaining good relationships is a prerequisite for this position, as is the ability to collaborate modestly and persistently. You do not shy away from problems; instead, you contribute to solutions and joint results. Other details The employment is permanent and begins with a six-month probation period. The position is classified, and a security screening with record checks will be conducted before a hiring decision is made. You must be a Swedish citizen. Are you interested? If you would like to know more about the job and what we offer, please contact David Hughes or Harriet Pedersen at the MFA's security unit regarding the content of the position. You are also welcome to reach out to HR officer Sofia Tillfors. All can be reached through the Government Offices switchboard, 08-405 10 00. Labor union representatives for UPF (Saco) and ST-MFA can also be contacted via the Government Offices switchboard. We welcome inquiries from those interested in the position, but we decline offers from those selling advertisements and recruitment services. Please register your application in our recruitment tool no later than November 20, 2025. The Government Offices' mission is to support the government in its efforts to govern Sweden and realize its policies. Approximately 4,800 people work here, of which 600 are abroad. The Government Offices welcomes applicants with diverse backgrounds and experiences. We regard equality and diversity as strengths and assets and actively work to be a workplace free from discrimination. The Ministry for Foreign Affairs is responsible for foreign and security policy, global development and aid, trade policy, assistance to Swedes abroad, international law and human rights, export control of military equipment, and international cooperation with countries and regions, as well as trade, investment, and Sweden promotion.
