Welcome to us! About the workplace
Henåns School currently has approximately 580 students from preschool to grade 9 in both regular and adapted primary education. There are over 90 staff members from various professional backgrounds working here. The school consists of three units, each with its own principal: grades F-3 with after-school care, grades 7-9, and Adapted Primary School grades 1-9 with after-school care. The Adapted Primary School is located at Henåns School and consists of 4 classes and an after-school program, with 33 students and about 24 staff members. The after-school program, Lotsen, has 15 enrolled students and offers both morning and afternoon care, as well as care for students over 12 years old. The staff work in teams that include teachers, resource educators, and teaching assistants. The work and development organization is led by a coordinating special educator and team leader who collaborates closely with the principal.
Community, Respect, Empathy, Safety, and Responsibility (GRETA) are the foundational pillars and core values of Henåns School. The safety team and student health services, together with the teachers, are highly engaged in the school's values work. At Henåns School, we strive for an open climate with strong cohesion because it is important that we care for one another. We focus on positive factors and aim to enhance what helps students feel good and succeed in school. The entire school actively works with PALS, a values program that is research-based and used in many Swedish schools to create a safe and positive learning environment.
To make teaching comprehensible, manageable, and meaningful for students in the Adapted Primary School, we work with five competencies: collaboration, responsibility, creativity, reflection, and communication. This competency work permeates all activities.
Your tasks
During school hours, you primarily work with students who are studying subject areas, but you also work with all students in the after-school program. Several students have significant care needs and require assistance and support with personal hygiene, bathroom visits, meal situations, and other activities. We collaborate with the primary school's after-school program, so some tasks may also be performed there with their students.
Our focus is to work together to ensure that students' school days and leisure time are meaningful and positive, creating conditions for learning throughout the day. You play an important role as students practice independence and social interaction. You are present with students during breaks and in activities where they need support and guidance. You can work independently and directly with students but also participate in the group's joint activities. You recognize the individual needs of each student and use appropriate methods and aids.
You support students in their knowledge development and are proactive in finding individual solutions to help them engage with the teaching throughout the school day and progress towards national goals. You contribute to students' independence by using the necessary aids for them to succeed.
In the afternoons, you work in the Adapted Primary School's after-school program alongside other resource educators.
About you
We are looking for someone who enjoys working with students who need that "little extra." This is what helps students feel understood and able to express themselves. You need to be prepared for your workday to vary, as you will be working across the entire organization, both in school and in the after-school program. You will provide support where there is a need. We prefer that you have relevant education and experience working with children and young people with intellectual disabilities.
In our organization, it is important that you are positive and focus on solutions rather than problems and difficulties. You enjoy and find it easy to collaborate but are also confident in working independently. For students' days to be successful, it is essential that you can follow the established routines at both the individual and group levels.
Great importance is placed on personal suitability, flexibility, and responsibility.
