About this role
The Fortifications Agency is responsible for managing a portion of the state's real estate, such as properties intended for defense purposes. The fortification infrastructure and the development of this property portfolio must be purposeful and enhance the operational capability of the Armed Forces.
The Fortifications Agency assists the Armed Forces in matters related to premises, land, and facilities. On behalf of the government, the agency undertakes new construction and renovations, as well as the acquisition of real estate. The agency also conducts fortification development work to ensure that expertise for the needs of Swedish society in protection and facility technology can be developed and secured.
The Fortifications Agency is one of Sweden's largest property owners. The growth of the military defense places high demands on the agency's property portfolio to meet the increasing needs of the Armed Forces and other total defense authorities. The high rate of investment must continue to achieve the goal of strengthening total defense.
The Fortifications Agency is led by a board. The Director General is the head of the agency, and the Deputy Director General serves as the Director General's representative.
Approximately 1,300 people work at the agency. The headquarters is located in Eskilstuna, with regional offices around Sweden, including in Boden, Skövde, and Karlskrona.
Qualifications
We are looking for a proven leader with:
• experience working at the management level in a larger organization,
• experience in public administration,
• good knowledge of the decision-making processes within the state administration and an understanding of the political structure in which the agency operates,
• experience in driving change and efficiency initiatives,
• an academic degree or equivalent,
• strong skills in Swedish and English.
You should also have the ability to:
• assist the Director General in leading and developing the Fortifications Agency,
• understand the mission of leading an organization in a heightened security political situation,
• maintain a flexible and unpretentious working style,
• possess strong social skills and communication abilities,
• contribute to the operation being conducted as efficiently and rationally as possible within given financial and legal frameworks,
• represent the agency and communicate its tasks with a professional approach to clients and other stakeholders, both internally and externally, nationally and internationally,
• establish and develop good collaboration forms and have a trust-building approach towards employees as well as in contact with other authorities, clients, and actors,
• develop and lead operations within the framework of a good governance culture.
It is advantageous if you have:
• experience working on large and complex projects,
• experience in defense, foreign, or security policy issues,
• experience in development work, preferably with elements of digitalization.
Other Information
Only Swedish citizens can be appointed as Deputy Director General of the Fortifications Agency. The position is classified and a security clearance with a background check will be conducted prior to the hiring decision.
