About this role

The Mechanical Piping Engineer within AFNORD’s Project Management Office (PMO) provides technical expertise, design review, and engineering coordination for mechanical and piping systems across AFNORD’s portfolio of industrial and infrastructure projects. The role ensures that all design, procurement, and construction activities adhere to project specifications, international standards, and AFNORD’s governance frameworks. Acting as a bridge between the client, EPC partners, and internal PMO functions, the role contributes to delivering technically sound, cost-effective, and schedule-compliant project outcomes. Key Responsibilities • Review and validate piping and mechanical engineering deliverables prepared by EPC contractors and design consultants, ensuring alignment with project specifications, codes, and standards. • Support PMO governance by preparing technical evaluation reports, review comments, and design compliance summaries. • Coordinate interface management between process, mechanical, civil, and E&I disciplines to ensure system compatibility and constructability. • Participate in 3D model reviews, HAZOP sessions, and design coordination meetings as AFNORD’s technical representative. • Evaluate material requisitions (MRs), technical bid evaluations (TBEs), and vendor documentation for piping and mechanical systems. • Provide technical oversight during fabrication, installation, testing, and commissioning, ensuring contractor adherence to approved procedures. • Ensure that as-built documentation, QA/QC records, and redline markups are reviewed and captured in the project data room. • Contribute to risk assessments, change evaluations, and constructability reviews from a mechanical perspective. • Support PMO project controls by providing inputs to progress measurement, forecasting, and technical performance tracking. • Promote AFNORD’s engineering excellence, sustainability, and safety objectives across all project stages. Required Qualifications & Experience • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline. • Minimum 5–8 years of experience in piping and mechanical design, preferably in EPC or client-side project environments. • Strong understanding of ASME, API, ISO, and EN standards applicable to piping and mechanical systems. • Proficiency in 3D modeling and design review tools such as Navisworks, SmartPlant Review, or E3D. • Familiarity with piping stress analysis software (e.g., CAESAR II) and material specification development. • Experience with vendor document review, factory acceptance testing (FAT), and site technical support. • Demonstrated ability to interpret and challenge EPC deliverables within a structured project governance framework. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; Swedish proficiency is an advantage. • Strong analytical mindset with the ability to balance technical rigor and project practicality. Desirable Attributes • Experience working within a client or PMO environment overseeing EPC delivery. • Exposure to data center, energy, or advanced manufacturing projects. • Knowledge of project lifecycle models (FEED, EPC, commissioning). • Familiarity with quality assurance and technical audit processes. • A proactive and collaborative approach to cross-functional coordination.
