About the Organization
Biobank Väst is the biobank of the Västra Götaland region.
The organization operates under the area of research, development, education, and innovation (FoUUI) at Sahlgrenska University Hospital. We are a competence center for biobanking issues, handling biobank agreements, and offering services for the collection, management, storage, and retrieval of biobank samples. We are also responsible for all cold storage facilities at Sahlgrenska University Hospital. All our work is conducted within the framework of a quality management system. Biobank Väst currently has about 25 employees with diverse backgrounds and roles, including researchers, project managers, system developers, biologists, and biomedical analysts.
Biobank Väst works closely with Core Facilities at Sahlgrenska Academy, University of Gothenburg, and is part of the national infrastructure Biobank Sweden.
Biobank Sweden is a national infrastructure for biobanking in collaboration between healthcare, universities, the business sector, and patient organizations. The purpose is to strengthen the conditions for medical research and contribute to good diagnostics and treatment for patients. The work within Biobank Sweden takes place in various areas related to biobanking legislation, sample management, and IT development.
About the Position
We are looking for someone who wants to take a key role in the development of Swedish biobanking operations! The position combines local and regional work at Biobank Väst’s Study Center with strategic and project management assignments at the national level within Biobank Sweden. You will be an important link between regional and national development and have the opportunity to influence the future research infrastructure.
As a project manager at the Study Center, you will be a central contact for researchers and healthcare operations planning the collection of biobank samples and wishing to use Biobank Väst’s services. You will:
- Provide advice and support in planning studies that include biobank samples.
- Design study-specific procedures for the collection, management, storage, and retrieval of samples.
- Coordinate the collection and retrieval of biobank samples, including writing instructions and establishing service agreements.
- Contribute to the development of Biobank Väst’s services and regional infrastructure.
The role also includes strategic work at the national level within Biobank Sweden to harmonize and streamline biobanking procedures across the country. This work is done in close collaboration with the preparation group, management group, and various working groups within Biobank Sweden. You will:
- Investigate issues and map needs.
- Identify action proposals and prepare decision-making materials.
- Be responsible for documentation and convening working groups.
- Participate in harmonization projects within Biobank Sweden to streamline routines and processes.
- Coordinate national and potentially Nordic initiatives and projects.
About You
We are looking for someone with a PhD in healthcare science or Life Science (alternatively a master’s degree with at least 5 years of relevant experience or other qualifications deemed equivalent). Experience in biobanking is an advantage.
You have excellent knowledge of Swedish and English and are accustomed to working with digital tools and databases. The role requires a high degree of independence, good collaboration skills, and the ability to drive projects from start to finish.

Additionally, you have good collaboration skills and appreciate working with research-supporting services. You also have the ability to switch between different tasks based on needs while ensuring that the work maintains a high quality.
