About this role
Department of Community Planning constitutes one of three departments in the regional development administration and has the mission to implement the regional development responsibility for infrastructure in the region, further develop regional community planning, and work with the transition to a sustainable society. We are a department at the forefront of sustainable community development, where 15 committed strategists work with everything from community planning, infrastructure, broadband and mobile networks, transportation, energy, environment and climate to circular economy. We report to both the regional board and the sustainability committee.
WORK TASKS
We are now seeking a project manager to drive our new initiative Community Transformers, an EU-funded project via the national development fund ERUF. The project will be run by Region Gävleborg in close collaboration with the county's municipalities and academia, aiming to strengthen the public sector's ability to meet complex societal challenges through three main tracks:
• Develop knowledge about sustainable cities and communities
• Development of innovation capabilities
• Develop management of external financing
By building organizational capabilities, the project will contribute to long-term capacity building and transition towards a sustainable Gävleborg.
As project manager, you will be responsible for driving the project forward according to set goals and activities in close collaboration with colleagues in the department. The project will be conducted in collaboration with the county's municipalities, County Administrative Board of Gävleborg, and academia, who have also been involved in shaping the project's direction. Tasks included in the project manager role are arranging and conducting workshops, organizing learning seminars, and supporting the public sector in building organizational capabilities in sustainability, innovation management, and external financing. You will also be responsible for formal project reporting to the project's financiers.
As project manager, you will among other things work with:
• Planning and implementing project activities together with the county's municipalities
• Monitoring the outside world and networking locally, regionally, nationally, and in some cases internationally
• Communicating and disseminating project results
• Participating and contributing to internal processes
• Working in innovation initiatives

The project will run from January 2026 to November 2028, and the position will be filled subject to funds being granted.
QUALIFICATIONS
We are looking for someone who is initiative-driven, unpretentious, and has strong collaborative abilities. You naturally include people, adapt your communication to the target group, and thrive in environments where answers are not always given. You are curious, solution-oriented, and motivated by driving development and change together with other actors.
As Project Manager, you should have:
• Relevant higher education for the position
• Experience from similar assignments
• Experience with regional development and collaboration between organizations
• Experience with follow-up, reporting, and procurement
• Good communication skills and ability to include others in the process
Experience with EU-funded projects, innovation work and/or development within the public sector, building networks, partnerships, and developing approaches for external financing is meritorious.
