Subject Area Complex Socio-Technical Systems with a Focus on Transportation Subject Description The subject encompasses the development of knowledge, principles, methods, and tools that support the analysis and management of complex socio-technical systems and their long-term development, with a particular focus on sustainable transportation systems. The subject is based on extensive model-based development and analysis of complex socio-technical systems, including their entire lifecycle, characterization, integration of qualitative and quantitative methods, and connections to various perspectives and sustainability-related challenges. A central aspect of the subject is a deep understanding of how different actors – through their perspectives, roles, and abilities – shape and influence system changes, and how external factors drive development. Close collaboration with industry and other societal actors therefore characterizes the subject. Work Assignments The work assignments include both research and teaching. Research activities involve conducting independent research, initiating new research directions, driving research applications, establishing new research collaborations, and supervising students. Furthermore, the role includes building, leading, and developing the research area of complex socio-technical systems at KTH. Research is largely conducted within interdisciplinary projects and in collaboration with many different types of actors. The professor will be part of a multidisciplinary group, thematically organized at KTH, with responsibility for developing the subject area broadly and in collaboration with groups in areas such as system and component design, mechatronics and embedded systems, integrated product development, and design. The interdisciplinary nature of the subject also involves extensive collaboration with other departments and schools at KTH, as well as with the business sector and public sector. Work assignments also include participation in and active development of education at undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral levels. This includes course responsibility and course development. The professor is expected to be able to teach in Swedish within five years. A language plan will be established to support this if needed. Eligibility Eligible for appointment as a professor is one who has demonstrated both scientific and pedagogical skills. Assessment Criteria The degree of skill required for eligibility for employment shall apply as assessment criteria for professorship at KTH. Additionally, the assessment criteria specified in section 1.1 of KTH's employment regulations apply in relation to the established employment profile. Of the highest importance is that the applicant has demonstrated: - Scientific skills within the subject area. - Documented experience of collaborating with the surrounding society for mutual exchange and working to ensure that the university's knowledge and competence benefit society. - Pedagogical skills within the subject area. - Ability to develop and lead operations and personnel. This includes knowledge of diversity and equal treatment issues, with a special focus on gender equality. Of next highest importance is that the applicant has demonstrated: - Collaboration skills. It is also important that the applicant has demonstrated: - Administrative skills.
