The Department of Art History conducts research and teaching in art history and textile studies. The department has research environments in areas such as medieval and Renaissance art and architecture, 18th-century visual worlds, architecture and urbanity, contemporary art, and digital art history and AI. For more information, see: https://www.uu.se/institution/konstvetenskapliga/ The hired professor will play a crucial role for the Department of Art History and the new research environment established within the scientific area of humanities and social sciences, through the planned Anders Sandrew Institute for Culture and Creativity. We are therefore seeking a person with a solid foundation in art history and experience in applying and critically evaluating digital methods within the discipline. The research can focus on developing digital tools for visualization, documentation, analysis, and classification of artworks, the impact of computer vision and AI within an art historical framework, including issues of image forensics and generative image production, as well as the role of digitalization and cultural heritage infrastructures in transforming art historical practices. Subject Area Description Digital Art History. Job Responsibilities The hired professor will have overall responsibility for developing and conducting research and education in art history, with a special focus on digital art history. This includes developing the research subject, planning and leading research projects, conducting personal research, actively seeking external research funding for both personal and others' research (such as doctoral students), and developing collaborations with external parties, nationally and internationally. The responsibilities also include curriculum development at various educational levels, communicating and informing about research, and representing the subject in various contexts. The research portion normally amounts to approximately 50% (including research administration) of the position. Teaching, supervision, and curriculum development at different levels are included with approximately 50% (including teaching administration) of the position. The position holder should also be prepared to take on various management assignments at the department (e.g., director of doctoral education or head of department) and at other levels within Uppsala University. Eligibility Requirements Eligible for appointment as a professor is someone who has obtained a doctoral degree in art history or has equivalent scientific competence, and has demonstrated pedagogical skills. It is required that the pedagogical skills, scientific skills, and other skills are relevant to the subject content of the position and the tasks to be included in the employment. The applicant should have completed university pedagogical education relevant to university activities, comprising ten weeks, or otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge. If there are special reasons, the university pedagogical education can be completed during the first two years of employment. To be considered as a doctoral supervisor, completed supervisor training is required. Eligibility requires documented ability to teach and administer in Swedish or another Scandinavian language, as well as English. Those who do not have the ability to teach and administer in Swedish are expected to be able to use Swedish as a working language within two years. Additionally, as a general eligibility requirement for teachers, the applicant must have the personal qualities required to perform the position well, such as flexibility, good collaboration skills, and a sense of responsibility.
