Norrbotten Theatre is the regional theatre for the whole of Norrbotten. Our mission is to produce and present professional performing arts for all people in Norrbotten – stories that engage children, youth, and adults alike, allowing us to think, grow, and enjoy together.
Norrbotten Theatre offers a varied repertoire with several original productions as well as various guest performances, soup theatre shows, and after-work events, attracting approximately 45,000 visitors each year. The performances take place wherever the people of Norrbotten are; on tour throughout the region and at the three stages in the theatre house in Luleå.
Norrbotten Theatre was established in 1967 as Sweden's first regional theatre. The organization operates as a foundation, primarily financed by Region Norrbotten, Luleå Municipality, and the Swedish Arts Council. Norrbotten Theatre employs around fifty staff members, has an annual turnover of just over 60 million SEK, and a self-financing rate that fluctuates between 12.5% and 15%. Norrbotten Theatre aims to deliver relevant entertainment to the entire Norrbotten region. High quality and personal commitment are highly valued at Norrbotten Theatre. We also strive to harness the qualities that a balanced gender distribution, as well as ethnic and cultural diversity, bring to the organization.
