About this role

Lund University was founded in 1666 and is consistently ranked among the world's leading institutions of higher education. It has around 47,000 students and more than 8,800 employees in Lund, Helsingborg, and Malmö. We are united in our pursuit to understand, explain, and improve our world and the conditions of humanity. Lund University welcomes applicants from diverse backgrounds and experiences. Equality, equal opportunities, and diversity are fundamental principles in all aspects of our operations. Postdoctoral Researcher in Electrical Engineering at the Department of Electrical and Information Technology Description of the Workplace The Department of Electrical and Information Technology at Lund University, Lund University Faculty of Engineering, is unique in covering the entire technology stack – from wireless hardware and radio systems to distributed cloud platforms and applications. This broad expertise enables research that seamlessly integrates communication, computation, and cloud-native design. We are currently seeking a postdoctoral researcher for the Department of Security and Network Systems who is driven by the challenges of scalable cloud design, real-time orchestration, and the convergence between edge and cloud, and who wants to develop the next generation of cloud-native infrastructure for 6G systems. In this role, you will focus on the cloud-related challenges that arise when large-scale distributed systems meet wireless networks. Your work will explore scalable, latency-sensitive, and resource-efficient cloud platforms for XR/VR offloading at the network edge – with a focus on container orchestration, workload placement, and hardware acceleration in heterogeneous environments where computation and communication function as a cohesive whole. You will be part of an interdisciplinary and collaborative research environment that values creativity, initiative, and experimentation. We combine in-depth systems research with practical validation in advanced testbeds and close collaboration with industry. Project Description This position is part of NextG2Com – a Vinnova competence center coordinated by Lund University. NextG2Com focuses on next-generation advanced communication systems that integrate wireless communication, networks, software, data, and security within key application areas for advanced digitalization. The center brings together Lund University, industry partners, and public actors with support from Vinnova. More about NextG2Com (nextg2com.lu.se). As a postdoctoral researcher, you will have access to world-leading research environments such as the LISA 6G testbed and Lund University's 5G lab, and work alongside leading experts from both academia and industry. More about the LISA 6G testbed (elliit.se/lisa). Your main task will be to design and implement a cloud-native platform for scalable XR/VR offloading and low-latency migration in 6G networks. The role is practically oriented and focuses on system development, real-world deployment scenarios, and performance evaluation, with an emphasis on resource-constrained edge hardware such as the Xilinx RFSoC platform within the LISA 6G testbed.
