About this role
We have the power of over 40,000 students and staff. Students who inspire hope for the future. Staff who contribute every day to Linköping University tackling contemporary challenges. Our values are based on credibility, trust, and security. By being brave, thinking freely, and innovating, we create, through both large and small actions, a better future together. Welcome to apply for a job with us!
Become part of our groundbreaking research team at Linköping University to revolutionize protein modeling with AI!
Your Responsibilities
Join our world-leading research group at Linköping University, where we laid the groundwork for recent breakthroughs in protein structure prediction that were later awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2024. Since then, we have further developed and refined our pioneering AI-driven methods. This project focuses on enhancing protein structure prediction, design, quality assessment, and dynamics using new ideas in machine learning. You will work with tools such as AlphaFold and RosettaFold-diffusion and apply deep learning to tackle the next challenges in dynamics and the design of new protein-based drugs.
As a postdoctoral researcher, your primary role will be conducting research. Teaching may also be part of your responsibilities, but not exceeding one-fifth of your working time.
Your Qualifications
To be eligible for the position of postdoctoral researcher, you must have completed a PhD or have a foreign degree that is assessed to be equivalent to a PhD. Your degree must be obtained no later than at the time the employment decision is made.
It is advantageous if your degree was obtained no more than three years prior to the application deadline for this position. In certain cases, the time frame may be extended for those who have completed their PhD earlier, for instance due to various types of statutory leave.
We are looking for candidates who hold a PhD in bioinformatics, computer science, life sciences, or related fields.
To be an attractive candidate for us, your background and interests should align with some of the following points:
• Proficiency in programming languages, preferably Python.
• Ability to handle large datasets.
• Knowledge of AI and machine learning techniques.
• Applications of AI in structural bioinformatics or related areas.
• Experience with the AlphaFold platform and its applications for protein structure prediction.
• Proficiency in BASH and command line.
• Background in structural biology, molecular modeling, protein dynamics, and understanding of ensembles.
• Experience with large-scale computations. Bonus points if you've successfully crashed a computer cluster!
Scientific curiosity and the ability to think independently are vital personal traits for a candidate. You are expected to collaborate with colleagues and contribute to supporting the research group’s activities. You must also possess excellent oral and written communication skills in English. You should thrive working as part of a team and be willing to learn from your colleagues while sharing your knowledge and experience.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions regarding the position.
Your Workplace
The position is located in the structural bioinformatics group at the Department of Bioinformatics, IFM (Department of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology) at Linköping University. The group consists of engaged and motivated researchers, including PhD students, postdocs, and senior researchers, all committed to advancing the field of structural bioinformatics. The team emphasizes mentorship and professional development, providing personal guidance and support to help researchers reach their full potential.
As part of the structural bioinformatics group, you will have a unique opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking research in a supportive and inspiring environment. You will be surrounded by like-minded individuals passionate about using computational methods and AI to solve complex problems in structural biology and making a lasting impact on our understanding of life at the molecular level.
About the Employment
The position is a fixed-term position of two years with the possibility of extension, resulting in a total employment period of no more than three years.
The postdoctoral position is full-time.
Start date is negotiable.
