About this role
Work Tasks
A central challenge in machine learning is ensuring reliability and credibility.
This is particularly important in high-risk applications such as medical diagnostics, autonomous vehicles, and agent systems. To meaningfully improve the reliability and credibility of large-scale machine learning models (e.g., LLM), we therefore need new scalable methods that can effectively and accurately capture, represent, and reason about uncertainties based on rigorous and principled frameworks.
We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher, fully funded by WASP, to participate in and contribute to the establishment of https://trappmartin.github.io/ research group.
Your Role
The goal of this position is to conduct independent research and develop theories and methods that help improve the reliability and credibility of large-scale machine learning models (e.g., LLM) in a meaningful way. You will participate in the https://trappmartin.github.io/ research group and develop your own research agenda based on the group's research. The group's specific focus is to develop and apply theories from tractable models (probabilistic circuits) and Bayesian statistics to address the reliability of machine learning models, including topics such as uncertainty quantification in large-scale models, exact and approximate inference, and neuro-symbolic methods. See Martin Trapp's https://trappmartin.github.io/ for more information. The candidate is expected to expand the group's research expertise through their own experience and conduct research in close collaboration with the group. You will develop theoretical and methodological work that will be made available as open-source libraries and publish your work at top-tier machine learning conferences (NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, UAI, AISTATS). Additionally, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with machine learning researchers at KTH and international experts through the group's network.
Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program, WASP, is Sweden's largest single research program in modern times. The program creates a platform for academic research and education in close collaboration with leading Swedish technology-intensive industries. The research encompasses artificial intelligence and autonomous systems that operate in cooperation with humans and adapt to their environment using sensors, information, and knowledge, creating intelligent systems of systems. WASP's vision is excellent research and expertise in artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, and software for the benefit of Sweden's industry and society.
