About this role

The Department of Chemistry - Ångström conducts research and education in the field of chemistry. The department has 270 employees and a turnover of 300 million SEK. Within the department's six programs, highly successful research of international caliber is conducted. We have a large number of externally funded research projects, often involving international collaboration, and we anticipate continued strong growth in our field. The department has educational assignments within engineering and master's programs. More information can be found at our website: https://kemi.uu.se/angstrom. **Job Responsibilities** The project focuses on modeling various types of high-entropy electrolytes at the molecular level for application in both lithium and sodium batteries. The goal is to understand how different design and material choices relate to structure, dynamics, and performance. A particular focus is on solvent-free electrolytes based on salt melts. The methods primarily involve molecular dynamics simulations and smaller DFT calculations, but the COSMO-RS software may also be used. The postdoctoral researcher will be part of Prof. Patrik Johansson's new research group at Uppsala University, within the Ångström Advanced Battery Centre (ÅABC). This fundamental yet application-inspired research project is funded by the Swedish Research Council as part of a Council Professorship grant for "Next Generation Batteries." The main responsibilities for a postdoctoral researcher include conducting research. These may also include teaching, up to 20% of the working time, as well as supervising and collaborating with PhD students and thesis workers. **Qualifications** A PhD in chemistry, physics, or materials science, or a foreign degree deemed equivalent. The degree must be obtained by the time of the employment decision. Typically, the degree should have been awarded within the last three years, counted from the application deadline. However, in special circumstances, the degree may have been obtained earlier. Special circumstances refer to leave due to illness, parental leave, elected positions within trade unions, and similar situations. Applications will primarily be assessed based on the applicant's ability to conduct independent research and their scientific competence. The quality of each individual scientific work is weighted more heavily than the number of publications. Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, drive, and independence, as well as how the applicant's experience and competence complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department and how they can contribute to its future development. The applicant must have excellent written and spoken English skills and experience in molecular-level modeling. **Desirable/meritorious** Experience in research on electrolytes and modern batteries is meritorious. **Conditions** The position is temporary for 2 years, with the possibility of a 1-year extension. The scope is 100%. Start date is negotiable. Location: Uppsala. For inquiries about the position, please contact: Torbjörn Fängström, +46 18-471 33 65, [email protected]. We welcome your application by December 5, 2025, UFV-PA 2025/3525. Uppsala University is a broad research university with a strong international standing. The ultimate goal is to conduct education and research of the highest quality and relevance to make a difference in society.
