Workplace Description The Genetics and Diabetes Research Group conducts research in precision medicine and metabolic complexity of type 2 diabetes. Research, focusing on precision medicine and genetics, is at the forefront of diabetes research; the group is led by Associate Professor Emma Ahlqvist. Project Description The postdoctoral position will utilize existing high-resolution data from large-scale cohorts and large family cohorts, complemented with bulk and single-cell RNA sequencing data from relevant tissues, to investigate the pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes and its early-life programming. Job Responsibilities and Areas of Responsibility At Lund University, a postdoctoral position should provide opportunities for scientific and pedagogical merit. Priority is given to research merit, with some opportunity for higher education pedagogical training. Teaching may also be part of the job duties. The position will involve a mix of methodological and diabetes genetics and genomics research. Methodological research may include, but is not limited to, statistical models based on genetic data from family studies and -omics data for integrative deconvolution and machine learning methods for prognosis and therapeutic biomarker development. Research may include, but is not limited to, software tool dissemination, biological discoveries, and participation in studies with large research consortia. The position will require manuscript writing on bioinformatics methodology, software package development/maintenance, teaching, supervision, and other academic activities. Qualifications Requirements for the position: - PhD or equivalent foreign degree in Bioinformatics, statistics, genetics, or equivalent. PhD must be completed by the time of employment decision - Good ability to develop and conduct high-quality research - Pedagogical ability - Experience with R and/or Python - Statistical knowledge and application - Experience handling large datasets - Knowledge of Bash/Linux - Excellent English skills, both verbal and written - Self-motivated, persistent, collaborative, stable, structured, independent, creative, with strong analytical and/or mathematical abilities Meriting factors: - Preferably degree obtained within the last three years prior to application deadline - At least two published first-author manuscripts - Strong knowledge of biology and genetics - Experience with family-based analyses Candidate assessment will primarily be based on scientific merits and research potential. Special emphasis will be placed on scientific ability within the subject area. About the Position The position is time-limited to a minimum of two and maximum of three years, according to collective agreement for time-limited postdoctoral employment.
