The Department of Chemistry - Ångström conducts research and education in the field of chemistry.
The department has 270 employees and a budget of 300 million SEK. Within the department's six programs, highly successful research of international caliber is being conducted. We have a large number of externally funded research projects, often involving international collaboration, and we anticipate continued strong growth in our field. The department is responsible for educational programs in engineering and master's degrees. More information can be found on our website: https://kemi.uu.se/angstrom.
**Job Responsibilities**
Beyond lithium-based batteries, there are several opportunities and limitations, many of which stem from the electrolytes used. The cell chemistry and design vary from sodium to magnesium, calcium, and aluminum, but a common thread is how different choices relate to the resulting structure, dynamics, and performance. The project focuses on highly concentrated electrolytes with the goal of conceptually and concretely developing new electrolytes to achieve both increased understanding and battery performance. The methods primarily involve various electrochemical approaches.
The postdoctoral researcher will join Prof. Patrik Johansson's new research group at Uppsala University, which is part of the Ångström Advanced Battery Centre (ÅABC). This fundamental yet application-inspired research project is funded by the Swedish Research Council as part of a Council Professorship grant for "Next Generation Batteries."
The main responsibilities for a postdoctoral researcher include conducting research. They may also include teaching, up to 20% of the working time, as well as supervising and collaborating with doctoral students and thesis workers.
**Qualifications**
A PhD in chemistry or materials science, or a foreign degree deemed equivalent. The degree must be obtained by the time of the employment decision.
Typically, the degree should have been obtained within the last three years, counted from the last application date. However, in special circumstances, the degree may have been obtained earlier. Special circumstances refer to leave due to illness, parental leave, trust assignments within trade unions, and similar situations.
Applications will primarily be assessed based on the applicant's ability to conduct independent research and their scientific competence. The quality of each individual scientific work carries more weight than the number of publications.
Consideration will also be given to good collaboration skills, drive, and independence, as well as how the applicant's experience and expertise complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department and how they can contribute to its future development.
The applicant must have excellent written and spoken English skills and experience with electrochemical methods for evaluating battery cells.
**Desirable/Meritorious**
Experience in research on sodium and/or multivalent chemistry-based electrolytes is meritorious.
**About the Employment**
The position is temporary for 2 years, with the possibility of a 1-year extension, according to central agreement. The extent is 100%. Start date is negotiable. Location: Uppsala.
