About this role
Job Responsibilities
The Department of Road and Rail Technology is seeking a motivated and collaboration-oriented postdoctoral researcher for a project focused on developing machine learning tools for pavement management.
The project is conducted in collaboration with the Swedish Transport Administration and partners from the road industry.
Project Goal
The aim is to develop data-driven decision support tools to predict pavement performance and plan maintenance and reinforcement. This will be based on comprehensive datasets of pavement performance, utilizing advanced machine learning and statistical methods to generate forecasts and evaluate the impact of different maintenance and reinforcement strategies. The postdoctoral researcher will lead the work of extracting and analyzing pavement and traffic data, integrating these with climate and environmental data, and developing validated predictive models for pavement deterioration.
The position is research-focused and provides an opportunity to strengthen independence and build merits for future academic or industrial careers. Teaching at various academic levels may also be included. The work is conducted in an interdisciplinary environment combining expertise in pavement technology, mechanics of pavement materials and structures, and machine learning. The role offers opportunities to contribute to high-impact scientific publications and practical decision support tools for the road technology sector.
