About this role

Lund University was founded in 1666 and is consistently ranked among the world's leading institutions of higher education. It has approximately 47,000 students and more than 8,800 employees in Lund, Helsingborg, and Malmö. We are united in our pursuit to understand, explain, and improve our world and the conditions of humanity. Lund University welcomes applicants from diverse backgrounds and experiences. Equality, equal opportunities, and diversity are fundamental principles for all aspects of our operations. **Description of the Workplace** Our research group is well-regarded in the field of acousto-fluidics through our foundational experimental studies of ultrasound resonances that generate forces on microscopic objects in microchannels. The research is closely linked to the Faculty of Medicine, addressing both biomedical research and clinical questions with the aim of developing new technologies for sorting, manipulating, and analyzing cells and extracellular vesicles. The work is conducted in laboratories at both LTH and the Biomedical Center at Lund University. Particular focus will be placed on the development of microfluidic systems based on acoustic chromatography and acoustic trapping of submicrometer particles, especially biological nanoparticles, such as extracellular vesicles. **Job Responsibilities** The primary responsibility of the postdoctoral researcher will be to conduct research. Teaching may also be included in the responsibilities, but will not exceed one-fifth of the working time. Within the framework of the employment, there is an opportunity for three weeks of higher education pedagogical training. The purpose of the position is to develop independence as a researcher and to create conditions for further qualifications. The research will include the development of liquid chromatographic methods combined with acoustic fields for the enrichment and separation of extracellular vesicles. The job responsibilities include: - Research in the fields of acousto-fluidics and liquid chromatography - Publication of research results in well-respected scientific journals - Presentation of research findings at international conferences - Supervision of thesis projects and doctoral projects - Seeking research funding - Collaboration with industry and the surrounding community - Administrative work related to the above tasks **Eligibility** To be eligible for employment as a postdoctoral researcher, the applicant must have obtained a doctoral degree, or a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a doctoral degree, in the relevant field of employment. Proof of meeting the eligibility requirement must be submitted no later than at the time the employment decision is made. Primarily, the applicant in question should have obtained their degree no more than three years before the application deadline. If there are special reasons, the doctoral degree may have been obtained earlier. **Other Requirements:** - Experience with analytical methods based on liquid chromatography - Good knowledge of basic principles of liquid chromatography - Experience with surface modification of chromatographic column materials - Experience with bioanalytical methods for protein analysis - Experience in analyzing nanoparticles and/or extracellular vesicles - Excellent command of English, both spoken and written - Pedagogical and communicative skills **Assessment Criteria** This is a qualifying position primarily focused on research. The employment is intended as an initial step in the career, and the assessment of applicants will primarily be based on their scientific merits and potential as researchers. Particular emphasis will be placed on scientific ability within the subject area. When hiring a postdoctoral researcher, the following criteria will form the basis for assessment: - Strong ability to develop and conduct high-quality research. - Pedagogical ability. **Additional Merits:** - Experience in acousto-fluidics - Experience with lab-on-a-chip technology - Experience in the design, manufacturing, and evaluation of acousto-fluidic systems - Experience in acoustic and flow mechanical modeling of particle movements in acoustically actuated microfluidic systems - Experience in acoustic trapping of nanoparticles or extracellular vesicles - Experience in analyzing nanoparticles and/or extracellular vesicles - Teaching experience Consideration will be given to how the applicant, through their experience and competence, is assessed to complement and strengthen the research within the department/institution and contribute to its future development. **We Offer** Lund University is a government authority, which means you receive special benefits, generous vacation, and a favorable occupational pension.
