About this role

At the department, education is conducted in the subjects of computer engineering, electronics, electrical engineering, and sound production. The research at the department takes place at the research center Sensible Things that Communicate (www.miun.se/stc) and focuses on sensor-based systems and services for use within the Internet of Things and artificial intelligence. **Job Description** The STC Research Centre at Mid Sweden University is looking for a postdoctoral researcher within Autonomous Sensor Systems. The research will focus on applying machine learning approaches in resource-constrained sensor systems, such as low-power IoT nodes and UAVs. Key objectives include the development of lightweight and potentially energy-aware ML models, the optimization and compression of these models for deployment on resource-constrained systems, and the evaluation of ML-based methods in applied sensing and measurement scenarios. As such, the work is expected to include both theoretical and experimental components. Application scenarios are primarily focused on industrial and structural health monitoring but may be complemented with other application areas. You will be a vital part of the ASY research group at the STC Research Centre and will be involved in ongoing research projects on the next generation of Industrial Internet of Things and Structural Health Monitoring in close collaboration with national and international partners in industry and academia. You are also expected to actively contribute to project and grant proposals, as well as supervise PhD and master's students in the research group. Senior researchers in the group will support you in your research and career planning through active supervision. **Requirements** To be eligible for a postdoctoral appointment, your qualifications must match the requirements described in [this link](https://www.miun.se/medarbetare/styrdokument/ny-styrning-planering-och-uppfoljning/Personal/Anstalla-personal/?item=311447). To qualify for employment as a postdoctoral fellow, you must hold a doctorate or an equivalent foreign degree in a relevant research field. Your degree must not be older than 3 years from the end of the application period; however, sick leave and/or parental leave can be deducted from the three-year period. For this position, you are required to have a PhD in electronics, electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a related field and have previous academic experience in machine learning. Active participation and collaboration within the research group is necessary. It is therefore important that you are a responsible person with a holistic view, that you can communicate freely both orally and in writing in English, and that you are structured in your way of working. **Assessment** Previous experience, degree, and work related to the field of the position are important in the selection for this position. **Personal Qualities** You should be able to independently plan and carry out research in the field of the position and be responsible and open to learning new things. It is also important that you function well in the group, are open to collaboration with external parties, and can contribute your knowledge to others. **Other Assessment Criteria** It is important that you can communicate freely both orally and in writing in English. **Employment Process** Processing of the appointment will be in accordance with [this link](https://www.miun.se/medarbetare/styrdokument/ny-styrning-planering-och-uppfoljning/Personal/Anstalla-personal/?item=311447). **Terms of Employment** This is a full-time position (100%) for 2 years from 2026-02-01 or as agreed. Terms and conditions of employment are set out in [this document](https://www.miun.se/globalassets/styrdokument/administration-stod-och-service/personal/anstalla-personal/regel/avtal-om-tidsbegransad-anstallning-som-postdoktor-2021-11-19.pdf). **Place of Employment:** Sundsvall **Information** For more detailed information, contact the Head of Department, Patrik Ă–sterberg, at [email protected], +46 (0)10 142 84 98, or Sebastian Bader at [email protected], +46 (0)10-142 8095. **Application** Application documents must be submitted in Swedish or English. Documents must include a CV, copies of grades and diplomas, thesis, a personal letter, as well as other documents (for example, project work) that you wish to refer to. The personal letter should clearly describe your experience in relation to this position, what research you want to conduct during your postdoc, as well as your visions and goals in this area. Please submit your application through the recruitment system by no later than December 10th.
