JOB DESCRIPTION
The role of a Personal Ombudsman involves working with clients over the age of 18 who, due to their mental disabilities, face significant and long-term social challenges that create major obstacles in their daily lives. Clients often have complex needs for care, support, and services. Regular contact with social services, primary care, and/or specialized psychiatry or other authorities is common. Clients may also have substance abuse issues. It should be easy to receive support from the Personal Ombudsman; direct contact is all that is required, and no referrals are needed; the service is free of charge.
The purpose of the role is to ensure that individuals receive the right help, advice, and support based on their own wishes, needs, and legal rights. Personal Ombudsmen do not exercise authority and therefore cannot make decisions regarding interventions. They are not responsible for care or treatment and cannot take over the authorities' responsibilities for coordinating services.
As a Personal Ombudsman, you will work partially independently but collaborate with both outpatient care and the VÄXT house, where you will help plan the municipality's operations based on social psychiatry.
As a Personal Ombudsman, you will also identify systemic organizational failures that negatively impact individuals. Your role may resemble that of a housing support worker within the municipality and a contact person within psychiatry. This approach makes your work more cross-disciplinary, allowing you to adopt various methods from both a medically oriented perspective and a more empowerment-focused approach, which means increasing the individual's agency through support, leading to personal development and greater self-trust, as well as increased power and control over their daily lives. Another important aspect of the job involves strengthening the network around the individual in combination with an empowerment-focused approach to both increase resources around the individual and help reduce stigma, i.e., prejudices about mental disabilities. Collaborating with other stakeholders is also a vital part of the work, contributing to the municipality's overall efforts regarding mental health, as well as being involved in initiatives like Skåne Week and recovery cafés.

As a person, you should be self-assured, flexible, responsible, and possess developed self-leadership skills. You should find it easy to establish contacts, collaborate, and be meticulous and organized.
