About this role
Are you an enthusiastic chemist with a strong interest in organic synthesis—both practical and theoretical? Do you enjoy tackling complex challenges and want to combine research with commercial project collaborations with industry? Join us in shaping the future of pharmaceuticals at RISE’s Chemical Processes and Pharmaceuticals department!
**About Us**
RISE is a driving force in the sustainable transition that business, society, and the world need. We work with solutions and conditions that make a difference today—and with knowledge areas and technologies that can be crucial tomorrow. The mix of roles, perspectives, and competencies gives us and others better conditions in a complex world.
The Chemical Processes and Pharmaceuticals department is now looking for a synthesis chemist with experience in drug development. Welcoming a new enthusiastic colleague to our team is one of the most rewarding things we know. With us, you will have great opportunities to influence your career, and through open dialogue, we set goals together for your development at RISE. You will also encounter a creative and welcoming environment and many skilled colleagues to collaborate with.
**About the Role**
Within the department, we work on both commercial and grant-funded research and development projects. We conduct commercial project collaborations with industry and research in areas such as chemical process development and scale-up, formulation, and analytical chemistry. An important area for you will be developing processes for the synthesis of oligonucleotide- or peptide-based drug substances. We use our unique expertise to solve problems and develop processes in close collaboration with our customers, from small companies to multinational pharmaceutical firms.
The work is mainly carried out in interdisciplinary project teams, with significant personal responsibility for deliverables. As a synthesis chemist, you will work in the lab on a wide range of issues within organic chemistry, both in customer and research projects. Participating in networks, identifying business opportunities, writing research proposals, and leading projects are natural parts of the role.
Please note that a background check will be conducted before employment.
**Location:** Södertälje
**Who Are You?**
To succeed in the role, you are creative and solution-oriented. You enjoy working independently and taking responsibility while valuing collaboration and open idea exchange with colleagues. You have a strong drive to take initiative and make things happen. You are used to working practically in a laboratory environment. Since we collaborate both internally and externally with customers and partners, we see that you are business-minded, attentive, and skilled at building relationships.
**Requirements:**
- PhD in organic synthesis chemistry or MSc in organic synthesis chemistry combined with several years of relevant work experience in the pharmaceutical industry
- Practical experience in peptide and/or oligonucleotide synthesis. You master relevant techniques such as (automated) solid-phase synthesis and have knowledge in purification and analysis of peptides and/or oligonucleotides.
- Experience in conjugation chemistry. You have knowledge in designing synthetic routes, synthesis, isolation, and analysis of conjugated substances or new modalities.
- Excellent command of English, both spoken and written
**Meritorious:**
- Completed post-doc in a relevant technical field
- Experience in process scale-up and/or large-scale manufacturing
- Knowledge of Swedish, both spoken and written
**Are we a good match?**
Do you want to help develop the next generation of biological drugs? At RISE, we are building a new platform for synthesis—a venture where you, as an organic synthesis chemist, will play a key role. You will be part of a growing team that together develops tailored synthesis methods and processes for future pharmaceuticals. Here, you can combine your chemistry expertise with innovation and help shape both working methods and research environments from the ground up. With us, you will work in a creative environment where your knowledge contributes to real benefits—for research, industry, and society.
