The patients we care for carry a lifetime of experiences, multiple illnesses, and often a complex health situation. On the Geriatric Orthopedics ward 30B, we care for patients with fractures, fall traumas, and pain issues both before and after surgery. The department operates a Clinical Education Unit (KUA), where clinical education supervisors from each profession, as well as nursing assistants, are responsible for students. As a nursing assistant, you play an important pedagogical role. Your Assignment As a surgical nursing assistant, you will work closely with patients and be responsible for parts of their care. You will observe, assess, perform, and evaluate nursing care. Your tasks will include taking venous samples, inserting catheters, nursing around feeding tubes, dressing changes, stitch removals, monitoring vital signs, ECG, bladder scans, taking various blood and wound cultures, and rehabilitation. Depending on your prior experience, there is also the possibility of being delegated certain medication handling such as inhalations, eye drops, and insulin. The department has two different nursing assistant roles with varying focuses. The surgical nursing assistant will focus on the discharge process, liaising with municipal and primary care services, admitting emergency hip patients, etc. The surgical nursing assistant works in a team with one nurse and two nursing assistants, guiding the team. You will also need to be able to work in KUA, which involves supervising doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and physiotherapists. As a surgical nursing assistant, you can work across all nursing assistant functions in the department and introduce new colleagues to these roles. You are also an important part of shaping, implementing, and following up on new working methods to meet our patients' needs. Your Qualifications • We are looking for you who are a qualified nursing assistant (please attach Socialstyrelsen’s certification of protected professional title). • You have experience working as a nursing assistant in an orthopedic geriatric ward. • You have experience leading teamwork in a care department. • You have experience mentoring colleagues and students and can supervise according to IPL as a pedagogical foundation. • You have experience in designing, implementing, and following up on new working methods to meet our patients' needs. • It is essential that you enjoy working with elderly individuals. Your Competence The role requires you to be confident in your nursing assistant skills and have extensive experience working as a nursing assistant. You should be interested in learning a new way of working that places high demands on your leadership abilities and your ability to plan and structure your day. The variety in the work means you need to be flexible, responsible, and able to adapt to urgent situations. You possess a strong pedagogical ability and are self-assured in your role as a nursing assistant. You can guide others in team and patient work. You enjoy working with older individuals, have a good approach, and possess strong collaboration skills. You want to help others become their best selves!
