About this role
Are you a veterinarian who wants to work with animal welfare and food safety? We are now seeking a veterinarian for the Nordic region's largest poultry slaughterhouse, where you will work with committed colleagues in a constantly developing organization.
A Sustainable Employment
The National Food Agency actively works to offer all employees a sustainable employment. We provide you with a good introduction when you start with us and offer secure working conditions and excellent benefits. Wellness allowance, subsidized massage, and a generous number of vacation days are some of these. We want you to feel that going to work is enjoyable and that what you do is important.
As a veterinarian at the National Food Agency, you have an independent work role, but for difficult decisions and situations, your knowledgeable colleagues are just a call away. Here, you become part of a team where we help and support each other in daily work. Together, we make a difference!
A Societally Important Mission
As an official veterinarian at the National Food Agency, you contribute to ensuring Sweden has good animal welfare and safe food. In your work, you are responsible for live animal inspections and post-slaughter inspections, which involves both animal welfare checks and assessments of meat suitability for food. You may also work with inspection and revision. The role involves varied tasks, and no two days are alike. Simultaneously, you have an important role as a group leader, contributing to the organization's development, planning, and coordination with your colleagues.
As a government official, you have an important mission towards consumers and companies. You have a control function but should also act as support and make it easy for companies to do things correctly. You do this, for example, by informing about what good animal welfare means, about animals' needs and species-specific characteristics, and by helping create understanding of hygiene and food safety in food production. The role also includes government reporting, administration, and some driving.
About the Team and Employment
The Poultry Team is part of the Slaughter Control Unit in Southern Sweden but has special responsibility for all control at Sweden's poultry slaughterhouses, which creates comprehensive oversight and enables alignment and development. The team consists of approximately 25 official veterinarians.

The job also includes performing export control at a nearby freezer warehouse and regularly staffing a smaller poultry slaughterhouse. You will be offered introduction based on your needs and given the opportunity to visit the facilities.
The position involves on-call and shift work at inconvenient hours with early mornings and late evenings, but also daytime according to a rotating schedule. It also includes helping with other slaughter control at the National Food Agency when needed. Depending on your preferences, there is also an opportunity to combine the employment with other activities not in conflict with the mission at the National Food Agency.
Your Competencies
To work as an official veterinarian with us, you must have a Swedish veterinary license or a veterinary license from another country approved by the Agricultural Board for professional practice in Sweden. You must also have a B driver's license and good Swedish language skills in speech and writing, and be able to understand and make yourself understood in English. Good administrative ability is also highly valued for this position.
As a person, we hope you are curious and want to try contributing to good animal welfare and safe food. You need to be flexible, punctual, and able to make well-grounded decisions and take initiative. You have high personal maturity with the ability to reflect on your strengths and development areas and can see and contribute to the bigger picture. One of your strengths is creating an overview of the current situation/future and finding solutions for the organization. You dare to make the necessary decisions in consultation with your colleagues and manager. The team is characterized by strong team spirit, which provides great opportunities to develop both in specific issues and from a holistic perspective.
You have good collaboration skills and enjoy creating good relationships. We are interested in your knowledge and experience, which you are happy to share. At the same time, you are open to learning from others, as it is together with colleagues that you succeed and develop. Conversations with businesses and other stakeholders are also part of the work, which requires you to be clear, professional, and attentive in your communication. We will place great importance on your personal qualities.
