About this role
Defense Music is the Swedish Armed Forces' function for Swedish military music. Defense Music will turn 500 years old in 2026 and has played a significant role in the Armed Forces and Swedish musical life throughout the centuries.
The Defense Music function consists of the professional music corps: Army Music Corps, Life Guards Dragon Music Corps, and Navy Music Corps, the 25 Home Guard music corps, and the Armed Forces Field Artists' war organization. Additionally, Defense Music hires contract music corps for special assignments.
Each year, Defense Music performs over 1,400 musical efforts, both large and small. This takes place in the state ceremonial area, at unit ceremonies and unit concerts, through public concerts and tours, both in Sweden and internationally.
The Navy Music Corps is a harmony corps for parade and ceremonial activities, as well as a symphonic wind orchestra with a broad repertoire. The music corps consists of 30 musicians and is located in Karlskrona.
Main Work Tasks
• The position involves marching performances in ceremonial, parade, and figurative demonstrations
• Participating in concerts with orchestra and ensembles
• Participating in recording sessions and live performances
• Participating in various work groups within Defense Music

• Music education from university or equivalent competence
• Experience performing in professional contexts
• Physical fitness for marching performances

Working Conditions
Work takes place in multiple locations with irregular working hours and in varying conditions and environments, both indoors and outdoors, in Sweden and abroad. Performances are conducted in uniform.

Audition
Audition with subsequent interview will take place on 2026-01-30 (Friday, week 5) in Karlskrona, with time and place to be specified in a separate invitation.
Audition Piece:
Mozart's Oboe Concerto KV 314 in C major, movements 1 and 2 without cadenzas.
Ensemble and orchestra excerpts will be sent with the invitation approximately 4 weeks before the audition.
Employment
This listing is for a permanent position with a six-month probationary period. Commencement after agreement. Individual salary setting applies.
