About this role

The Swedish Museum of Natural History is a government authority with a mission from the government to promote knowledge, research, and interest in our world. The authority is a prominent research institution and Sweden's largest museum. For over 200 years, the museum has collected objects and data and conducted research on life on Earth. The collections contain more than 11 million plants, animals, fungi, environmental samples, minerals, and fossils. All research and knowledge are shared through exhibitions, Cosmonova, and activities at the museum and digitally. JOB DESCRIPTION We are currently seeking 1 museum host for a 20% position. You will work on a schedule that includes weekend work (every other weekend) and evening shifts may occur depending on the museum's opening hours. This position is for you if you enjoy meeting, inspiring, providing service, and sharing information with our visitors. You will encounter a large number of visitors, and the work is very varied, with periods of high tempo and alternating calm depending on visitor flow. You will be responsible for hospitality and interaction in our exhibitions, public areas, and Cosmonova, as well as handling ticket sales and bookings, cash management, and store work. You should be comfortable speaking in front of both large and small groups, as part of your role involves sharing information about selected collection items and our research in an educational and inspiring manner to our visitors, delivering welcome presentations in Cosmonova, leading activities in the Lab and Escape Room, and welcoming schools and other visitors. The role also involves managing various data systems, technology, and technical equipment, such as starting a film screening at Cosmonova. Additionally, you will need to be capable of leading an evacuation or using an automated external defibrillator in alarm and emergency situations. The job requires that you will be walking and standing a lot throughout the day in the various exhibitions and other public spaces, that some tasks may involve heavy lifting, and that you can evacuate via stairs during safety operations. The work is organized through a rotating schedule at different stations throughout the day, which places high demands on teamwork within the group. You may also participate in outreach activities and other tasks within the unit and the public department as needed. QUALIFICATIONS You have a high school education, at least three years of experience in service work, and experience in cash handling and sales in a store or equivalent. You have good computer skills and administrative experience, with knowledge of the Office suite, and you feel comfortable handling technology and technical equipment. You can communicate correctly and professionally in both spoken and written Swedish and English and are comfortable speaking in front of larger and smaller groups. Experience in retail with sales, unpacking goods, pricing, and some inventory management, as well as handling booking and cash systems, is preferred. Training in visitor reception, customer interaction, or guiding is advantageous, along with experience in guiding, explaining, product demonstrations, or leading group activities, and if you have worked in a museum or science center. Training in fire safety and CPR with an automated external defibrillator (D-CPR) is also a plus. To be successful and thrive in this role, we believe you are: • Service-oriented, creating a professional and positive experience for our visitors. Flexible, easily adapting your work approach to changing conditions. • Stress-resistant, focusing on the most important tasks even during peak visitor times that require a high work pace. • Collaborative, showing interest and understanding for others, fostering team spirit, and communicating proactively. • Communicative, expressing yourself clearly and adapting communication to the situation and audience. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Our goal is to demonstrate the path to increased knowledge and action through research and public activities, so that together we can contribute to a sustainable and bright future. Our long-term ambition is for the employees of the Swedish Museum of Natural History to reflect the diversity that exists in Sweden. We welcome all applicants regardless of gender, background, origin, and ability. In preparation for the recruitment process, we have made decisions regarding recruitment channels and marketing. Therefore, we kindly ask for no contact from media sellers, recruitment sites, or similar entities.
