About this role

Job Description Västernorrland Museum is tasked with preserving, developing, and making accessible the cultural heritage and cultural environments of the region. The museum's activities are extensive and include a broad museum experience delivered in the museum's physical spaces and through digital channels, as well as collection management and cultural heritage preservation. The museum building and Murberget Open-Air Museum are located in Härnösand. We are now seeking a new Museum Director. We are looking for someone who wants and can develop and lead the operations sustainably together with the museum's staff. As a leader, you are a responsive and inclusive individual who develops the museum's activities as a knowledge institution and meeting place. The Museum Director has many external contacts, including with public organizations, civil society, businesses, and media. As Museum Director, you will be responsible for personnel, budget, and working environment. Together, and in collaboration with other stakeholders, we care for and develop cultural heritage and museum activities in Västernorrland. The ideal candidate has several years of work experience in a leadership position. You are a confident and courageous leader skilled at helping both individuals and groups grow and reach their full potential. You lead and develop with clarity and structure in both ongoing work and development. You hold a relevant academic degree and have work experience from the cultural heritage sector, such as from museums, libraries, archives, or other knowledge-sharing institutions. We will place great emphasis on your personal qualities. The position of Museum Director is a permanent employment and will be filled according to agreement. Work will take place on-site in Härnösand, and travel may be required. We prefer that our new Museum Director lives in (or is willing to relocate to) our geographical area. Qualifications • Relevant academic degree. • Work experience from the cultural heritage sector, such as museums, libraries, archives, or other knowledge-sharing institutions. • Documented experience in strategic and operational leadership (Experience in organizational development, personnel and working environment responsibility, building engagement and inclusion, holistic and collaborative approaches across operations/departments, and change management). • Good understanding of budget work, financial management, and external funding. • Ability to develop the museum as a relevant and significant meeting place and knowledge institution. • Experience initiating and leading collaborative projects with external stakeholders in civil society, business, and public organizations. • Proficient in Swedish and English, both spoken and written. About the Company Stift Länsmuseet Västernorrland Västernorrland Museum is a cultural-historical museum based in Härnösand that documents and conveys the region's history and cultural heritage. The main building is located at Murberget Open-Air Museum, which features permanent exhibitions about the region's history from ancient times to the present, temporary exhibitions, a museum shop, and a cafĂ©. The museum also has several other visitor destinations in the region, such as GammelgĂĄrden in Myckelgensjö, Ulvö Chapel, and Styresholm ancient fort, and offers a wide range of activities, lectures, and events. In addition to exhibitions, the museum focuses on knowledge building, collection management, cultural heritage issues, and promoting handicrafts.
