About this role
Your workplace
Laboratory Medicine Värmland operates throughout the county and consists of four medical specialties: Clinical Chemistry, Clinical Microbiology, Clinical Pathology, and Transfusion Medicine.
We currently have 320 employees in our accredited operations and are tasked with providing high-quality service for sample collection, preparation, analysis, and the production of quality-assured analysis results, diagnoses, and diagnostic support. Laboratory Medicine Värmland is a knowledge-oriented workplace.
Currently, more than 40 employees work in Clinical Microbiology. In the molecular biology laboratory, molecular biologists and biomedical analysts collaborate. Teamwork is essential both within the molecular biology laboratory and throughout Laboratory Medicine.
The molecular biology laboratory is located within Clinical Microbiology but serves as a shared laboratory for all of Laboratory Medicine Värmland. Clinical Microbiology encompasses diagnostic areas such as bacteriology, molecular diagnostics, immunology, virology, parasitology, fungal diagnostics, and substrate production.
Your responsibilities
The role of a molecular biologist includes both routine diagnostics and development work. Responsibilities encompass technical equipment management, mentorship, and participation in the ongoing development of our operations. The molecular biology laboratory is an expansive workplace with continuous changes, improvements, and the introduction of new methods in which you will play a part. In routine diagnostics, this involves taking responsibility for the analysis and assessment of patient samples for the identification of viruses, bacteria, fungi, and parasites, as well as human genetic markers.
You will work with advanced technical analysis equipment such as real-time PCR, extraction robots, and whole genome sequencing equipment. In recent years, we have integrated genotyping using whole genome sequencing, and we see significant development opportunities in areas such as human genetics, cancer markers, and microbiology. Here, you will have the opportunity to be a vital part of advancing whole genome sequencing analysis in the molecular biology laboratory. An area we anticipate will grow is molecular analyses in cancer diagnostics and treatment.
Working within Laboratory Medicine Värmland means that you will have varied and stimulating tasks with good opportunities for development. There are also opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration, for example, Clinical Microbiology, Clinical Chemistry, and Clinical Pathology work together in molecular biological diagnostics.
We offer a pleasant working environment with clear goals in a knowledge-driven and learning climate. New ideas are always welcome, and together, we work towards continuously improving and developing our operations.
Your skills and qualifications
We are looking for a molecular biologist or a licensed biomedical analyst with molecular biological knowledge, or a corresponding relevant university education. Practical experience in laboratory operations within healthcare related to molecular biological diagnostics is preferred. Knowledge in sequencing is an advantage.
We require you to be meticulous and have a strong ability to work both independently and as part of a team. You will be working in a relatively small team, which necessitates the ability to switch tasks as needed throughout the day.
We are committed to constantly improving our operations, and we see your engagement as an essential part of that work. It is also important to us that you are quality-conscious and service-oriented, sharing our common goal of providing quick and quality-assured diagnostics for our patients. Personal qualities are highly valued, and you must have a good command of Swedish, both spoken and written.
Interviews will be conducted on an ongoing basis, so do not hesitate to submit your application today.
