We Collaborate to Develop and Ensure a Safe Upbringing for Children and Youth We teach children to read, write, and count. The Competence Center for Multilingualism works to ensure that students receive instruction in their mother tongue and study guidance in their strongest language. Currently, 38 languages are represented within the organization. We work with both municipal and private principals. We are Seeking a Mother Tongue Teacher in Swahili (Congo Dialect)! Employment Type Temporary Position, Part-time 50%. Start date as soon as possible and no later than 2025-12-19. Job Responsibilities The mother tongue teacher position is a mobile role dependent on student needs. This requires traveling between different schools in the municipality - both central and outlying schools to meet students. The position may include: Mother tongue instruction, study guidance, remote teaching, remote guidance, and language support for the Reception Unit Hej Umeå. Mother Tongue Instruction Teaching is conducted with students in groups or individually across municipal school units from preschool to grade 9. Instruction occurs outside the student's regular schedule in the afternoons. Students receive in-person instruction at their home school from preschool through grade 3. From grade 4, instruction may occur at a different school. We offer a bus pass for travel between schools. Remote instruction may be included for outlying school students from grade 2. The work is highly independent and includes planning, implementation, grading, and evaluation of instruction based on the Swedish curriculum. Study Guidance Study guidance can involve students in grades 1-9 and Language Introduction programs at the high school level. Guidance can occur before, during, or after student class time. You will closely collaborate with the student's mentor and subject teachers who plan and conduct lessons, while you provide support in the mother tongue to help students achieve knowledge across various school subjects. You are flexible and able to adapt to changing circumstances. You will also support the reception of newly arrived children and students, including information conversations, enrollment support, direct assistance, and mapping of new students' knowledge. Qualifications You have Swahili (Congo) as your mother tongue, documented language skills in this language, Swedish B/Swedish 2, and demonstrated strong digital capabilities. You have a teaching degree, Swedish or foreign, or other pedagogical experience. Documented knowledge of multiple languages or different Swahili dialects (Kenya, Tanzania) is advantageous. You are creative, independent, flexible, and stress-resistant. You are curious and want to develop and grow. As a person, you easily connect with staff, children, and guardians. You have good collaboration skills, are a good listener, and can communicate and handle various situations constructively. You take responsibility for your tasks and are accommodating in your approach. We place great importance on personal suitability. We prefer that you attach a personal letter and CV written in Swedish. If you have a teaching certification, please include it.
