Currently, over 100 people work in the Environmental Administration, located in the new city hall near the central station. The Environmental Administration is a municipal authority that supports the Environmental and Health Protection Committee and works to create good and healthy living environments for all residents of the municipality. You will be part of the Environmental Protection Department within the Environmental Administration, which currently employs 18 inspectors overseeing environmentally hazardous activities. There are excellent opportunities to learn new things and contribute your own experiences and knowledge to the team. We want you to influence and contribute to making a difference, work collaboratively, and welcome innovation. (https://www.uppsala.se/jobb/miljo/) Job Description PFAS is present in soil and water in Uppsala, and there are known contaminants affecting Uppsala's drinking water and residents, but the extent is still unknown. To reduce residents' exposure to PFAS, plans are underway to establish a Competence Center at the Environmental Administration. The center will build knowledge and act as a hub for PFAS issues in the municipality in the coming years. The PFAS Competence Center will ensure that the municipality has sufficient knowledge to assess whether there are areas where it should and can take action. In addition to increased knowledge, better coordination, and resident information, the center is expected to create value for strategic issues within areas such as urban planning and environmental and sustainability programs, which in turn ensures well-founded decisions within the municipality. In 2026, you will primarily work on establishing a PFAS Competence Center. This work will be closely coordinated with the development of drinking water advisory services within the administration. During 2026, a smaller part of your role will involve supervising contaminated areas and environmentally hazardous activities, as well as processing incoming cases. In the coming years, this will evolve into a combined position between the PFAS center and environmental inspector, focusing on contaminated land. Qualifications We are looking for someone with a scientific or technical university education or other qualifications that the employer deems relevant for the position. We expect you to have good knowledge of PFAS contamination, occurrence, and spread, knowledge of contaminated areas, and a solid understanding of the Environmental Code. The job requires proficiency in the Swedish language, both spoken and written. You should also possess good IT skills and a valid driver's license (category B). Preferred qualifications for the position include: • Education in environmental and health protection • Education in the fields of chemistry, ecotoxicology, hydrogeology, soil science, or biology • Experience in supervising contaminated land • Experience in supervision/processing of/working with PFAS issues in soil, groundwater, and drinking water • Experience in leading projects • Experience in media relations • Experience in governmental work. As a person, you are skilled at building networks and developing collaborations with internal and external stakeholders with expertise in PFAS. You are also adept at compiling and analyzing data and conveying new knowledge to various target groups. Furthermore, you plan and organize your work efficiently and take responsibility for your tasks. Last but not least, you communicate clearly and ensure that your messages are conveyed effectively.
