About this role
We are seeking an experienced environmental inspector who wants to help further develop the environmental protection work in Kumla and Hallsberg!
The position is located within the Environmental Unit, which is part of the Kumla and Hallsberg collaborative organization for environmental and construction activities. Our employees are employed by Kumla Municipality but work in both municipalities. Together, the municipalities have approximately 38,800 inhabitants, good growth, and high demand for housing and new business establishments, which creates opportunities for a wide range of exciting challenges in the supervision area.
The Environmental Unit's mission is to guide the municipalities' citizens and businesses in sustainable community development through supervision and advisory services.
At the Environmental Unit, we have 13 inspectors, an administrator, and an environmental manager. The unit's employees have broad expertise in environmental protection, health protection, and food safety, and you are welcomed to a workplace with committed and competent colleagues where we work together to develop and take responsibility for our shared assignments and goals. We offer you a varied and stimulating job with many contacts inside and outside our organization.
We encourage our employees to continuously develop their skills, and within the unit, there is an ongoing change process towards increased digitalization, higher legal certainty, and more efficient working methods that you will help contribute to.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
We are seeking an environmental inspector to work with supervision and processing of incoming environmental protection cases and contaminated land, primarily based on the Environmental Code.
As an environmental inspector, you will handle cases, plan and conduct supervision visits, respond to referrals and manage follow-ups, write reports, and formulate decision documents. Since we strive to achieve high service quality for our operators and citizens, information and advisory services are also a significant part of our mission.
As an inspector, you will work both independently with high personal responsibility and in close collaboration with your colleagues in the field. You will draft your own service documents and decisions and provide information, guidance, and advice to businesses and the public. The work is varied, and you will work both in the office and in the field conducting inspections.
We have extensive delegations from the committees, which means you will make independent decisions. Other aspects of your work will include preparing and presenting your cases for our politicians and participating in the municipality's urban planning.
The organization requires flexibility, which means that work tasks may change over time. Accordingly, the position can be somewhat adapted to your previous experience.
QUALIFICATIONS
We are seeking candidates with at least three years of higher education focusing on environmental and health protection, environmental science, or other education deemed equivalent by the employer. If you have previously worked as an environmental consultant, environmental inspector, or environmental engineer and want to work on issues that make a difference, this is the job for you! It is meritorious if you have experience with similar tasks as described above or work experience from other areas within the Environmental Unit's supervision, or experience applying the Environmental Code or other relevant legislation.
To succeed in the role, you need to have knowledge of and experience with the regulatory role and feel comfortable in it. You should be able to effectively collaborate with others and work independently, with a good ability to plan and prioritize your time. You are adaptable to changing conditions and open to changes and business development.
Customer interaction is important for achieving good long-term results, so you need strong social skills and the ability to professionally and service-oriented interact with people, both internally and externally, verbally and in writing. For example, communicating decision bases in a pedagogical and trustworthy manner or being able to give and receive help. You have good IT and system skills and can produce investigation documents and well-written documents.
Since we work with supervision, we consider it important that you can remain calm and stable even in pressured situations. To balance regulatory duties with the more advisory role, it is crucial to prioritize service and adapt your behavior to create good interactions and trustworthy relationships. We place great importance on personal qualities.
