About this role

At the Swedish Migration Agency, we are engaged in one of the major societal issues of our time – migration. We are approximately 6,000 employees here, and we have an unusually important job! We are seeking immigration law experts for Immigration Law Unit 2 at the Legal Department. With us, you will work with qualified legal application and current societal issues influenced by developments in our environment. These are matters that resonate and engage. There is currently extensive legal development in the field of migration both within the EU and nationally. The Legal Department consists, in addition to the office of the Chief Legal Officer, of three units: two immigration law units and the legal unit. The immigration law units are responsible for providing internal support and guidance to the rest of the organization on asylum and immigration law issues. Immigration Law Unit 2 has primary responsibility for legal matters concerning, for example, work permits, study permits, or family reunification, as well as issues related to citizenship. What does an immigration law expert do at the Legal Department? The Legal Department supports the organization by providing advice, writing legal analyses, drafting legal positions and handbook texts, and participating in governmental inquiries regarding new legislation. In your role, you may be responsible for coordinating assignments and tasks. We often represent the Migration Agency externally, and a significant part of the unit's work involves providing legal support to the Government Offices and other external actors. As an immigration law expert at the Legal Department, you will have the opportunity to participate in the development of our working methods and conduct follow-ups to ensure legal quality. You also have a good ability to adapt to changing circumstances and are interested in development issues. You can quickly change your perspective and approach, seeing opportunities in changes. We place great importance on having the personal qualities necessary to successfully fulfill the role. As civil servants, we are also held to high standards of judgment and a strong awareness of security and confidentiality. You, as an applicant, have: - A law degree - Relevant, broad, and several years of professional legal experience in immigration law - Excellent knowledge of immigration law as well as administrative law and public access and confidentiality - A good understanding of the legislative process and the ability to assess how changes in legislation may impact the agency moving forward - Excellent communication skills, expressing yourself well in both spoken and written Swedish and English - Good knowledge of the Office suite - Swedish citizenship It is advantageous if you have: - Experience working with EU law - Experience in development issues - Several years of experience in qualified legal work at the Migration Agency, Government Offices, or another authority - Several years of experience in qualified legal work in court The position may be classified in a security category, which means that a security review with a background check according to the Security Protection Act (2018:585) may precede the employment decision. Therefore, Swedish citizenship is required.
