At the Swedish Migration Agency, we work on one of the most significant societal issues of our time – migration. In total, we are approximately 6,000 people here, and we have an extraordinarily important job!
We are seeking migration law experts for the Migration Law Unit 1, based in Sundbyberg or Boden.

The Legal Department consists of the Legal Director's office and three units: Migration Law Unit 1 and 2, and the Legal Unit. Migration Law Unit 1 is responsible for areas such as international protection, detention, revocation, and control.
What does a migration law expert do in the Legal Department?
Migration Law Units primarily work to:
- Provide guidance and support to operations in asylum and migration legal matters by offering advice and internal legal support
- Write legal investigations
- Develop and author legal positions and handbook texts
- Work on legal quality through follow-ups of the agency's various operations
- Participate in investigations regarding new legislation, ordinances, and other regulations
As an expert in the Legal Department, you will have the opportunity to participate in developing our working methods. We strive to work cross-functionally within the department.
Who are you?
We are seeking someone with strong collaborative abilities, who is perceptive and resolves potential conflicts constructively. You have good self-awareness and can distinguish between personal and professional matters. You communicate articulately and passionately in individual meetings and in small and large groups while listening and remaining receptive. You understand complex issues and can break them down into pedagogical and clear explanations.

You see the bigger picture and consider the broader perspective and the best interests of the entire organization in your actions and decisions. You work well with complex issues, analyze and break down problems into their components, and solve complicated challenges.
In our work as civil servants, high standards of judgment and strong security and confidentiality awareness are also required.
Qualifications:
- Law degree
- Broad and multi-year professional legal experience in migration law
- Excellent knowledge of administrative law, public access, and confidentiality
- Good understanding of the legislative process and ability to assess how legislative changes might impact the agency
- Excellent communication skills in both spoken and written Swedish and English
- Good proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly PowerPoint
Meritorious:
- Multiple years of qualified legal work experience from government offices, agencies, or courts
- Experience with legal support and guidance in migration law
- Experience with legislative issues
- Experience with operational development
- Experience with EU law and EU negotiation work
- Experience in preparing and delivering presentations
