Hospitals in the West is an administration within the Västra Götalandsregion and consists of four hospitals – Alingsås Hospital, Angered Local Hospital, Högsbo Local Hospital, and Kungälv Hospital. Approximately 3,000 employees work with us every day to provide high-quality specialist healthcare that is safe and effective.

At the emergency department in Kungälv, you will be a key person in the care chain. Here, you will experience a fast-paced environment, varied tasks, and close collaboration with healthcare staff – all with a focus on patient safety and quality.

The secretaries at the emergency departments of Kungälv Hospital and Alingsås Hospital belong to the same unit and work closely together. Currently, there are 12 medical secretaries in Kungälv and 4 in Alingsås.
An administrative unit manager is responsible for all of them.
About the position
As a medical secretary in the emergency department, you are a central part of our operations. Your main responsibilities will include:
- Medical documentation and diagnosis coding (DRG).
- Printing and handling referrals, letters, certificates, and other correspondence.
- Patient registration, cash management/reception duties.
- Ambulance reception/registration.
- Documentation during alarms and meetings.
- Statistics and quality work.
- Telephone service.
- Mail handling and many other stimulating administrative tasks.
We expect that more new tasks will gradually be assigned to the medical secretaries.
The work is shift-based, which means day, evening, and weekend work. Two of the secretaries work exclusively night shifts planned over a period of about one year.
We are looking for someone who:
- Is a trained medical secretary.
- Is meticulous and structured.
- Is responsible, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and is flexible regarding work location, hours, and tasks.
- Sees operational development as a natural part of daily work.
- Is a team player who takes shared responsibility with colleagues for daily tasks.
- Is cheerful, positive, and service-oriented.
Qualifications
- A two-year YH education or equivalent higher education as a medical secretary is required.
- Excellent Swedish in both spoken and written form and good knowledge of medical terminology are required.
- Knowledge and experience with Melior, Medspeech, and ELVIS are required.
- Good IT skills are required.
- Training in diagnosis classification and experience with DRG coding is advantageous.
- Experience working as a medical secretary in an emergency department is advantageous.
- Since the role includes travel between Kungälv Hospital and Alingsås Hospital, it is essential that you hold a driver's license.
- Personal suitability is highly valued.
