Job Description
Introduction
Join a multidisciplinary project team designing, fabricating and testing a new generation of components for the High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC).
Be responsible for the design of the new HL-LHC cryogenic distribution lines (QXL), utilizing computer-aided design (CAD).
Key areas include structural and thermomechanical studies, pressure equipment design, cryogenics, ultra-high vacuum technology, sustainable design and manufacturing, safety, reliability, and product lifecycle management.
Functions
Technical management of design office tasks in close collaboration with a team of mechanical engineers, designers, and draftsmen, specifically for the Cryogenic Distribution Lines of the HL-LHC project:
- Analyze design requirements based on functional specifications
- Execute design studies of mechanical assemblies, components, tooling, equipment integration, and layout
- Create detailed 3D models and technical drawings in consultation with CERN manufacturing and materials experts
- Prepare project documentation according to Design Office quality assurance procedures
- Follow up on manufacturing, assembly, and installation of mechanical components
- Prepare presentations, technical reports, engineering specifications, and calculation notes
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant experience in Mechanical Engineering or related field
Experience:
- Proven experience as a mechanical design office designer
- Proficiency in mechanical dimensioning and standard mechanical analysis tools
- Expertise in computer-aided design
- Experience producing technical drawings of mechanical components
- CATIA CAD software experience preferred
