About this role
Sundsvall Municipality is one of the largest employers in Norrland, with around 8,000 employees and over 300 professions. Together, we fulfill one of the most important missions in society – to create benefit and value for residents, businesses, and future generations. Regardless of our operations, we work towards the same goal: to be a great place to live, thrive, and work.
We are currently in an exciting phase of development. We are a leader in digital development and artificial intelligence, spearheading efforts to create smart solutions for the future of the public sector.
Sundsvall plays a central role in the green transition in northern Sweden. We are convinced that the right places for this transition are here. As a municipality, we are preparing to grow by developing land, creating new educational opportunities, marketing the municipality, and welcoming new residents from around the world.
Within the Department of Children and Education, our approximately 3,000 employees serve around 14,000 children and students across more than 100 preschools and schools in the municipality every day. Every child and student in Sundsvall Municipality's preschools and schools should have the opportunity to develop, learn, and achieve their goals based on their individual circumstances. Every student should leave school with motivation, knowledge, and a solid foundation to face adulthood and the future.
Just ten minutes from Sundsvall lies the nature-surrounded Kovland and Vallens School, which has around 180 students from grades F-6. Teaching occurs in a two- or four-teacher system, where teachers collaborate across classes. The after-school program serves about 100 students divided into three departments and is also responsible for the school's recess activities.
At Vallens, we work towards a strong sense of community and close collaboration regarding students' well-being, development, and learning. Our systematic quality work is based on the needs of the operations and takes place within the work teams to achieve positive effects in both teaching and the after-school program.
With us, you will focus on your primary assignment. The day starts in the after-school program and transitions to teaching, planning, and collaboration with colleagues. After the school day ends, there is time allocated for preparation before the afternoon activities. No evening work is required – staff meetings and team time are scheduled during school hours.
Vallens after-school program is also part of a network with other schools to develop the program's mission.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
As a teacher in the after-school program, your primary responsibility is to plan, implement, and follow up on the program's activities based on the school's governing documents. Together with your work team, you will drive and develop the educational activities for the benefit of the students at the individual, group, and organizational levels.
During scheduled hours, you will participate in recess activities and have a specific assignment, such as teaching art, mathematics, serving as a resource in physical education classes, or being responsible for recess activities – depending on your passions and qualifications.
QUALIFICATIONS
You are a qualified after-school teacher or will soon complete your ongoing education. You demonstrate a strong commitment to the after-school program and possess a good ability to plan thoughtful and enjoyable teaching. You strive to develop the program to make it accessible for all students and have experience working with students who require additional support as well as those who seek challenges.
Your leadership is secure and clear, and you have the ability to recognize and reinforce the positive aspects of students. You are flexible, self-assured, and possess strong collaboration skills. You are solution-focused, see opportunities instead of obstacles, take initiative, and build good relationships with students, colleagues, and guardians. You view interaction and relationship-building as a natural part of your work.
The work team is an important resource, and it is essential for you to contribute positively to solving common challenges. You collaborate, plan, and conduct activities together with the team and engage with guardians, consciously working to be the school's face to the community. You are clear in your leadership and always prioritize the learning and development of the children. We place great emphasis on personal suitability.
We welcome your application.
