About this role
The Swedish National Board of Institutional Care (Statens institutionsstyrelse, SiS) is an authority responsible for individually tailored compulsory care for young people with complex psychosocial issues and for adults with substance abuse. SiS also implements secure care for youth. We operate youth homes and facilities for adults with substance abuse across the country. Working with us at SiS will present you with exciting challenges. Regardless of where you work in our organization or what position you hold, you will contribute to creating life-changing transformations.
SiS Youth Home Bärby, located outside Uppsala, accommodates non-compulsory school-age boys with psychosocial issues, as well as those involved in crime and substance abuse.
**Job Description**
Are you passionate about working with young people and interested in joining a school with a positive atmosphere, high quality, and joy in the workplace? We need to expand and hire new teachers for SiS Youth Home Bärby. This is your chance to influence students' futures and education in a creative and enabling school environment. We are looking for various subject combinations; therefore, we seek teachers in different theoretical and aesthetic/practical subjects, and the design and extent of the position can be discussed and tailored based on the applicant's qualifications and preferences regarding working hours.
The educational activities within SiS adhere to the same regulations as the rest of the school system. The school is responsible for the education of all enrolled youths. The young people residing at the youth home should receive the education they need and are entitled to. The placed youths are primarily boys aged 16-20. Almost all teaching occurs within the framework of the introductory program; individual alternatives, but there may also be compulsory school students and students within adapted schooling. All students have an individual study plan where they, together with a mentor and study and career counselor, set goals and study core subjects based on their needs. Instruction is conducted full-time in smaller teaching groups.
A positive attitude and belief in each individual's potential for development are essential. The students have varied experiences and results from previous schooling, which means that teaching needs to be based on good pedagogical relationships, be motivational, and conducted in accordance with the knowledge assignment. You will plan, implement, follow up, and document your teaching and be well-versed in all parts of the curricula and grading. Mentorship is included in the role.
At the youth home, there are several complementary competencies, and as a teacher, you will be part of a cross-professional and collaborative effort concerning the youths. Collaboration with, for example, nurses, treatment pedagogues, and psychologists is therefore an important part of your responsibilities. Many of us work together thoughtfully, maintaining a holistic perspective regarding the youths.
As a new employee, we will create an introductory program focusing on safety and the ethical aspects of the work to provide the right conditions for success in your role with us. There are also excellent opportunities for professional growth and development in your work.
**Qualifications**
- You are a licensed teacher for the later years of primary school and high school.
- You have the ability to plan, teach, and follow up on your instruction.
- You have experience in pedagogical work in a school environment.
Meritorious qualifications include:
- A broad subject competence in several subjects, preferably including English, Mathematics, Swedish/Swedish as a second language, Natural Science subjects, Home Economics, and Crafts (textiles). Other combinations are also relevant.
- Documented special educational knowledge; insight into various diagnoses, experience working with youths in need of special support and institutional care.
- Previous work within introductory programs or in special teaching groups.
- Proficiency in multiple languages.
You should be motivated to teach and build trusting pedagogical relationships in smaller teaching groups consisting of students with psychosocial issues and criminal backgrounds. It is important that you can identify and meet students' needs with high realistic expectations and motivate and guide them toward their goals. We appreciate a humble, flexible approach, the ability to set and maintain boundaries respectfully, and a belief that all students can find a path to education and employment.
You are secure, stable, and calm, even in stressful situations. You possess good collaboration skills, high social competence, and a positive view of students. You also understand the importance of adapting to changing circumstances and see the benefits of change.
You are proactive and participate in development work to achieve the school's goals, always taking responsibility for your tasks by planning, organizing, and prioritizing your work effectively. The job requires you to express yourself well in both spoken and written communication and to adjust your communication based on the audience.
The position is a permanent full-time role with statutory vacation, which means a 40-hour work week.
