About this role
The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now looking for more employees. Our primary goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society will be safer and more secure for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation services, remand facilities, and client transportation.
The Vänersborg operational area consists of two prisons in Vänersborg and a remand facility in Uddevalla. Östragård Prison is an open facility with space for 192 clients. Brinkeberg Prison is a closed facility with space for 144, and the remand facility in Uddevalla has 57 places. We are a content-rich organization, employing correctional officers, administrators, nurses, chefs, teachers, production leaders, managers, and more. We are a modern authority that offers development opportunities and challenges where you can help shape the future.
JOB DESCRIPTION
As a correctional officer, you will be part of a team where you have daily contact with clients. The tasks at the prison are varied: care, surveillance, search, and security work are mixed with release planning and conversation/motivation work. Work at the remand facility is often routine-driven and focused on care and security tasks. Clients may be detained for long periods without seeing anyone other than their lawyer and the staff at the remand facility, which places special demands on you as a correctional officer.
Working as a correctional officer means you can make a difference for other people and contribute to a better society. To thrive and succeed in your role, it is important that you share the fundamental values of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service regarding a humane view of humanity, respect for the individual, and the belief that people can develop.
QUALIFICATIONS
Your personal qualities are important. As a correctional officer, you need to be secure, stable, have good self-awareness, sound judgment, and integrity. Together with your colleagues, you will drive the operations, so you need to have good collaboration skills and be clear in your communication. You understand the importance of being punctual and having good structure in your work. You should be able to act physically when required.
We are looking for someone who has:
• Work experience, including seasonal work, hourly employment, or self-employment. Internships and volunteer work are not equivalent to employment.
• Completed upper secondary education or other education combined with work experience that the Swedish Prison and Probation Service deems relevant.
• Good knowledge of the Swedish language, both spoken and written.
• Good computer skills.
• A valid driver's license (B category).
It is an advantage if you have:
• Work experience from the Swedish Prison and Probation Service.
• Work experience in security work, social care, psychiatry, or healthcare and social services.
• Knowledge in relevant fields, such as behavioral science, criminology, psychiatry, law, and conflict management.
• Relevant language skills.
