**JOB DESCRIPTION**
Do you want to contribute to a safer and more secure society? As a correctional officer at a prison, you are the foundation of security work. You work in a team with other professional groups to maintain a safe and secure environment and to motivate clients towards a life free from crime. Daily tasks include locking and unlocking residential rooms, inspecting facilities, and monitoring, as well as engaging in conversations and preparing for release, among other responsibilities. The role of a correctional officer involves a structured and routine-based approach with a focus on risk assessment and security awareness. The work is varied, and there are many development opportunities for those seeking continued employment. It is important that you share the fundamental values of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service regarding a humane view of humanity, respect for the individual, and the belief that people can develop and change.
Employment as a correctional officer at Kumla Prison may require you to serve in all departments, including the general department, psychiatric and care department, and monitoring center.
If necessary decisions are made, there may also be a placement in a special department for clients under 18 years of age. The focus will be on creating safe environments that promote reintegration into society, with activities such as education, student health, employment, and age-appropriate leisure activities. Additionally, the rights of the child during enforcement will be ensured in accordance with the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Through client-centered work, we create a meaningful existence in an otherwise adult and security-focused environment.
The probationary employment begins with three weeks of introduction at Kumla Prison. After a few months of service, we will schedule when you will start the mandatory basic training provided by the Swedish Prison and Probation Service. The training lasts eight weeks and takes place during paid working hours. Ongoing assessments will occur before the probationary period transitions into permanent employment after six months.
**QUALIFICATIONS**
Your personal qualities are important to us. As a correctional officer, you need to be confident, stable, and possess good self-awareness. Since you will be working with your colleagues to manage operations, you need to have good collaboration skills and the ability to communicate clearly. Good judgment and integrity are required in your professional practice. To thrive and succeed in your role, it is essential that you share the fundamental values of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service regarding a humane view of humanity, respect for the individual, and the belief that people can develop. You should have a physical condition that enables you to act physically when the situation demands it.
We are looking for candidates who have:
• Work experience, including seasonal work, hourly employment, or self-employment. Internships and volunteer work are not considered equivalent to employment.
• Completed upper secondary education or other education combined with work experience deemed relevant by the Swedish Prison and Probation Service.
• Good knowledge of the Swedish language, both spoken and written.
• Good computer skills.
It is advantageous if you have:
• Work experience in corrections, security work, social care, psychiatry, or healthcare and social services.
• Knowledge in relevant fields, such as behavioral science, criminology, psychiatry, law, and conflict resolution.
• Work experience with children and adolescents in social services, SiS, schools, or other activities deemed relevant by the Swedish Prison and Probation Service.
• Experience working with children and adolescents with neuropsychiatric disabilities (NPF).
• Experience working with youth.
• Relevant language skills.
• A valid driver's license (B category).
