About this role

The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now looking for more employees. Our primary goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the cycle of crime. If we succeed, society will be safer and more secure for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation, remand facilities, and client transportation. The remand facility in Karlskrona, which is a smaller facility, is located in central Karlskrona and is housed within the police station. As an employee of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service, you will enjoy several benefits. For example: additional vacation days (28-35), wellness grants, reimbursement for medication (high-cost), and subsidized healthcare visits. This job posting is aimed at those who wish to work during the summer. Perhaps you are a police student seeking practical knowledge in interacting with people, or you are studying criminology or a behavior-focused program and wish to gain a deeper understanding of individuals? Maybe you want to change careers and try something new? Secure a summer position now with the possibility of extension after the summer. Working as a correctional officer means you can make a difference in the lives of others and contribute to a better society. To thrive and succeed in your role, it is important that you share the fundamental values of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service regarding a humane view of humanity, respect for the individual, and the belief that people can develop. This is a summer job that will provide you with lifelong experience. The work at the remand facility is often routine-based and focused on care and security tasks. Our clients may be detained for long periods without meeting anyone other than their lawyer and the staff at the facility. This places special demands on you as a correctional officer. This position is for those seeking a varied security role. Together with your colleagues, you will manage daily operations. Your tasks will include, among other things, monitoring, meal distribution, and searches, combined with isolation-breaking measures such as daily contact/conversations and motivational work with our clients. Since some documentation is required, it is important that you can express yourself well in writing. You need to have good self-awareness, integrity, stability, the ability to communicate clearly, and share the values of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service. The job may require you to intervene physically if the situation demands it to protect yourself, a colleague, or a client. We place great emphasis on personal suitability. The operations of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service run around the clock, year-round. You will work days, evenings, and weekends. Some schedules may include night shifts.
