**Job Responsibilities**
The head of the communications department is overall responsible for leading and developing the work within the department.
The department works to ensure effective use of the faculty's communication resources, both financially and in terms of expertise.
The head is responsible for personnel, including responsibility for the work environment and competency provision, budget, and operations within the communications department. Further responsibilities include communication work at the faculty, support to department and faculty leadership in strategic communication issues, as well as to the crisis and preparedness group in crisis communication. Some operational tasks are also part of the role. A good and close collaboration with faculty management and department heads is essential for a well-functioning operation, where processes often go directly between the communicator and the department/center or faculty management. Knowledge of laws and regulations governing the operations is also important, as is maintaining good dialogue with the administrative director and other managers since the formal responsibility lies with the administrative director and certain regulatory responsibilities overlap with other departments and managers.
A central part of the assignment is to coordinate the faculty-wide communication support for departments and centers. Here, the well-qualified and experienced employees are central, and a coaching and trust-based leadership is necessary. The head has an interest and ambition to support all employees in their development for the benefit of the operation.
The head is part of the management group of the administration alongside other department heads for operational support. The management group is led by the administrative director and the work requires an unpretentious approach to one’s work and role, good cooperative skills, and an ability to see the overall needs and developments of the Faculty of Social Sciences.
**Qualifications**
• A relevant university or higher education degree pertinent to the position, such as communication or equivalent.
• At least five years of work experience in a leadership role and/or in driving development work within a larger, complex organization is required.
• Experience working with communication operations and a broad understanding of the communication assignment.
• Experience in leading, developing, planning, and evaluating communication efforts.
• Documented leadership abilities through relevant education, good ratings, and current references are necessary.
**IT Skills**
The position requires good IT skills, including proficiency in the Office suite and familiarity with various operational and case management systems. It is advantageous if you have worked with any of the following systems: w3d3, Primula, Proceedo, LUCAT, Adato, Drupal, or equivalent.
**Desirable**
• Experience from the public sector.
• Knowledge and experience within the university and higher education sector.
• Experience in leading development, planning, and follow-up of communication from operations within a university or higher education institution.
