We are now looking for a municipal ecologist for the community development unit.
The community development unit is responsible for strategic physical planning, detailed planning, infrastructure planning, business development, land and exploitation, water strategic work, as well as green planning and nature conservation. We work together with the municipality's park and facilities organization, the environmental unit, and other parts of the community building process.
JOB DESCRIPTION
In the role of municipal ecologist, you will become the municipality's ecological expert and a key person in developing the municipality's green structures. You will work both strategically and operationally, conducting your own nature value inventories, managing exemption applications, producing ecological documentation, and ensuring that nature's values are integrated early in the planning and exploitation processes. You will be involved in the early stages of projects, where your assessments and analyses create the right conditions for the continuation. You will work closely with planning architects, land and exploitation engineers, and the municipality's project managers.
Your tasks will include:
• Conducting nature value inventories (NVI level 12) and assessing nature values.
• Managing exemption applications according to the Environmental Code and Species Protection Ordinance, including assessments, documentation, and dialogue with authorities.
• Serving as an ecological expert in building permit, planning, and exploitation processes, participating in balancing nature values and other community interests.
• Leading nature conservation projects and implementing restoration efforts.
• Supporting the municipality's park and facilities operations with ecological expertise and advice.
• Taking responsibility for the development of the municipality's strategic documents on green structure, biodiversity, and ecosystem services, including analyses, guidelines, and mapping materials.
• Coordinating and developing the municipality's long-term work on ecological connections and green infrastructure.
QUALIFICATIONS
• A degree in natural sciences in ecology, biology, conservation biology, physical geography, landscape ecology, or environmental science with a clear focus on conservation/ecology.
• Experience with nature value inventories at level 12.
• Experience in independently managing exemption applications according to the Environmental Code and the Species Protection Ordinance.
• Experience working in or closely with planning and exploitation processes.
• Experience in project management and securing external funding (e.g., LONA, LOVA, LIFE).
• Experience in producing strategic planning documents or guidelines related to green values.
• Strong ability to write clear, factual, and decision-oriented documentation.
• Good collaboration skills and the ability to communicate professionally with the public, businesses, and politicians.
• A valid driver's license (B category).
Meritorious
• Knowledge of GIS and experience in producing mapping materials.
• Special expertise in trees and the ecological functions of trees in urban environments.
• Experience in the establishment of nature reserves, restoration, area protection, or the development of management plans.
• Experience working with ecological connections, green structure, or ecosystem services.
• Experience applying Swedish Standard for Nature Value Inventory (SS 199000).
