Class Teacher for Adapted Primary School

Welcome to Us Risöskolan is Sundbyberg Municipality's adapted primary school for students with intellectual disabilities. Approximately 60 students from preschool to grade 9 attend the school. Instruction takes place in smaller classes and follows the curriculum for adapted primary schools. The school, which recently moved into brand new facilities, has a positive and dedicated staff focused on the students, both as individuals and as a group. Risöskolan operates under the vision: "What do you want to be when you grow up? We make it possible." Our goal is to provide students with the best possible start in life, both academically and socially. Key pillars of the school's work include clear pedagogical practices, communication, and positive behavioral support. Risöskolan develops teaching and activities within after-school care and short-term supervision (KTT) to offer a stimulating and safe environment so that all students can develop their social and academic skills to the fullest extent possible. Language development approaches give students the opportunity to express themselves, contributing to increased participation, independence, motivation, and security. All students should feel safe at Risöskolan, as safety is a prerequisite for learning. Our aim is for all students to feel they are met with kindness and respect, and that they can develop at their own pace based on their individual circumstances. Your Role We are currently seeking a class teacher for Risöskolan. The class you will be working with currently consists of eight students in grades F-4. The students study subject areas. The class includes several teaching assistants who support the instruction and the students' other needs. Together with the teaching assistants, you will form a class team. You will also be part of a work team with teachers, after-school program leaders, and teaching assistants from the neighboring class. As a class teacher, you will contribute to the development of the pedagogical activities of the adapted primary school. You will teach according to the adapted primary school's curriculum and educational plan, and you will perform the usual teaching tasks within the adapted primary school focusing on subject areas, meaning you will plan, execute, and document the students' development. The role includes mentorship for students. You will lead the pedagogical work during school hours and guide teaching assistants regarding the goals and content of the instruction. You will collaborate with the after-school program to facilitate the student's entire learning process throughout the day. Your Competence and Experience We are looking for a certified teacher for younger age groups. A special education teacher qualification with a specialization in intellectual disabilities is an advantage. You have a good understanding and knowledge of the school's governing documents. You use your creativity and can adapt your approach, pedagogical methods, and techniques based on the students' needs. You have a positive demeanor and the ability to build good relationships with students, guardians, and colleagues. You possess good knowledge of students with intellectual disabilities and neuropsychiatric disorders, and you work calmly and systematically with a low-arousal approach while maintaining a positive and inclusive attitude. We place great importance on personal suitability, good collaboration skills with students and colleagues, as well as previous experience in similar activities. Additional Information The position is a permanent employment with a holiday service. A six-month probationary period may apply. Application deadline: November 28, 2025. A significant part of our operations is classified as essential community services. The position may be subject to military placement within the framework of Sundbyberg Municipality's role in total defense.
