About this role

Together, we are developing Sahlgrenska University Hospital for a sustainable future. We are transforming healthcare with the goal of becoming Europe’s leading university hospital by 2032. Together with our patients, we work towards quality, accessibility, patient safety, research, education, and innovation – within a cohesive healthcare system in the Västra Götaland region. Our vision and goals aim for care of the highest quality, where the patient is always the focus. We provide healthcare locally and regionally, as well as highly specialized care to patients across the country and abroad. Our employees are our strength, contributing to knowledge exchange both nationally and internationally. With digital tools and new working methods, we can simplify daily operations at the hospital and offer modern, accessible, and efficient care of the highest quality. About Us Let us begin by introducing the Cardiology Department and the care we provide on our wards 92/93, where advanced cardiac care is delivered. Our two wards provide advanced cardiac care in close collaboration with each other and have the ultimate responsibility for emergency care concerning acute myocardial infarctions. We cover a large area with both county and regional assignments (Iceland, Norrland, and all of Västra Götaland). The department collaborates closely with emergency intake and the ambulance service. Nurses or doctors from the ambulance send ECGs to the ward, which are interpreted by two nurses. A decision is then made regarding the care the patient should receive, such as direct PCI or referral to another care facility. In the ward, we also care for patients with various types of arrhythmias and those being evaluated for advanced heart failure, heart pumps, and preparations for heart transplants. What We Offer Together, we can provide you with extensive knowledge in Cardiology so that you, as a nurse, can feel professional pride and develop your competencies over time, which is important to us. On the ward, doctors, nurses, and nursing assistants work closely together with frequent check-ins, prioritizing team spirit. We also work closely with other professional categories such as physiotherapists, social workers, occupational therapists, and dietitians. We have four instructors in the department who continuously educate the nurses through internal lectures and courses, both theoretical and practical. This makes you more confident and professional in your nursing role. The department has its own Heart and Lung instructors who conduct ongoing internal training where we practice together. This includes half-day to full-day sessions throughout the year. We have a cardiac arrest team that we are very proud of, where a nurse and a cardiologist respond to cardiac arrest alarms throughout the hospital. Both the doctor and the nurse wear a pager that alerts them to cardiac arrests. This is to ensure that the patient receives professional care as early as possible in the care chain. Participation in this is voluntary, but it is highly appreciated by both staff and other care departments. We have a competency ladder from general cardiology to advanced highly specialized care. There is also a specialist training program in cardiac care that takes place part-time over two years. About You We are looking for a licensed nurse. You are passionate about emergency care and possess important qualities such as good collaboration skills, attention to detail, social competence, and a flexible working style. Working in the cardiac intensive care unit means you must enjoy emergency care. The work will vary from high workloads to a calmer pace. This is the charm of working here. Feel free to call us if you are curious and want to learn more about our operations! After selection, there is an opportunity to visit and shadow a shift. With our broad mission, we can offer you an exciting workday. Warm welcome to your application! Meet Some of Our Employees - Sahlgrenska University Hospital In the event of recruiting nurses with foreign licenses/specialist certificates, the relevant position will be preceded by a process to meet the requirements for Swedish licenses/specialist certificates. As a newly graduated nurse, you will participate in the Clinical Foundation Year, which is our introductory program. The Clinical Foundation Year is mandatory and lasts for the first year of your employment with us. It includes lectures, nursing supervision, and practical training of your profession at the Simulation Center. In addition, it includes service in at least two different departments to broaden your competencies. About Västra Götaland Region Västra Götaland Region exists for the people of Västra Götaland.
